Nothing thrills me more than beautifully packaged press gifts, and I gushed to the Glamourbox team how pretty (and girly) the new Pixi Spring Collection is. And that dried pressed flower that was added as an afterthought? Totally genius!
If you recall, I had an "obsession" with Pixi last year where I almost hoarded all of their Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balms, that's short of saying this brand is one of my favorites and will always have a special place in my heart.
Alright, on to this new collection. Let me show you what I got in order of favorites:
Glow Mist - Php 950
A full-sized mist as big as this is always welcome in my book! The mint green bottle unmistakably spells F-R-E-S-H. The first thing I did was to check the ingredients list and I'm happy to report that it's made of mostly natural extracts such as argan oil, propolis, jojoba seed oil (this made my eyes pop -- love jojoba!), tea tree oil, aloe vera and fruit extracts, to name a few.

You know what sucks about being darker (even just a tad darker)? Is that I really have to re-think my whole base, not that I have a whole shebang of bases and color correctors to begin with. A usual day for me is to just apply my VMV Armada 60 sunscreen topped with mineral powder and I'm off, that's pretty much how "made up" I look every single day. But since I've tanned a bit, my sunscreen looks rather pasty on me. Oh what's a girl to do?
And then one day I remembered VMV's Skintangible which is a tinted moisturizer loaded with SPF 30. I used to think it looked a little too dark/muddy when I first tried it, (take note I was a couple of shades lighter then -- think NC 25), but now when swatched it practically disappeared into my skin. I went home with a purse-sized bottle right then and there.
This barely-there, “dew” lightful non-makeup is tinted subtly, beautifully, evening out skin tone and refining the complexion. With antioxidants and purely mineral SPF sunscreens to protect against fine lines, hyperpigmentations and other signs of (photo) aging. With monolaurin plus other monoglycerides - all coconut-derived, soothing, anti-acne and anti-inflammatory.
Mutli-purpose: It can be used alone as a barely-there non-makeup that leaves the complexion incredibly natural looking yet “skintriguingly” more refined. It also works under makeup as a skin-friendly, skin enhancing primer.
Price: Php 600/12g

a) the place will be teeming with people on vacation
b) we weren't responsible enough to book a luxury bus to Baler in advance
c) no one else wanted to drive 6 hours and take us there on such short notice
d) if ever we did find someone who could drive us, we only booked for 2 people and the hostels were full
We were definitely in a pickle.
How to get to Baler
So the plan was to leave Thursday (April 30) and stay until May 3 to beat the crowd. Despite not having a reservation, we decided to take a chance and head to Genesis Terminal (along Cubao, Edsa) at 1am of Thursday and wait it out. I was hoping for the best but was also prepared to wait for hours as a chance passenger. The moment I arrived, a barker approached me and asked where I was headed. I told him I was going to Baler for the weekend and call it luck or what-have-you but the barker said he had 2 remaining Joy Bus tickets and the bus was leaving in 5 minutes! I paid and called Alex (who was on her way) and we happily boarded the bus beaming with delight.
Joy Bus is the only luxury bus by Genesis that travels nonstop to Baler from Cubao (and vise versa), passing through Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and Cabanatuan. Ticket prices range from Php 635-700. If you think the price is steep, well you really get what you pay for: clean, comfy, air-conditioned bus, plush seats, lots of leg room, a blanket, a mineral water bottle, snacks, and a built-in restroom. Since there are no stopovers the travel time was approximately 4-5.5 hours (typically it could take 6-7 hours). The bus left a little past 1am, we arrived in the Baler Genesis terminal at around 6:30am and took the tricycle to Circle Hostel. Tricycle fare was Php 12 per pax and the ride maybe took 10 minutes.
Circle Hostel - Baler
Take note that this was our first visit to Baler, we still considered ourselves as tourists so it was understandable that we stuck with the familiar: Circle Hostel. The branch here is an upgraded version of the one in La Union, aside from the usual hammocks and co-ed bunk beds, the Circle Hostel Baler boasts of buddy/couple rooms that can house 2-4 pax. Alex and I stayed in the Dahican Room (Php 1300/night) with a bunk bed and an extra mattress. Sorry I forgot to take a photo of the inside, we immediately unpacked the moment we arrived and ate breakfast because we were famished after the long ride.

Oh what joy to be back in Manila with my family, to be back on my bed which I missed so much, to eat all my favorite food, and of course to hug my baby Epsilon :) The last 4 days in Baler were fun as we surfed and baked by the beach, I can't wait to do it again but admittedly, I had also missed the comforts of home. I'll blog about my Baler adventures separately but for now, let's kick off the week with a fresh FOTD.
Alright! The products above are my key picks to achieve that natural and fresh summer glow:
Had to change my shade since I started beaching, this skin-friendly loose mineral powder evens skintone, slightly blots out shine, and gives a natural (not overly matte) finish.
