Happy 100th Birthday, Maybelline!

Maybelline's humble history

It was ten decades ago when Maybel Williams sparked a fire and changed the history of beauty as she attempted to enhance her very own lashes that were accidentally burnt. Her astonishing solution? A mixture of Vaseline with coal dust to make them look darker and fuller. Fueled by this inspiring act, Tom Williams, Maybel’s entrepreneurial brother, adapted the formula to what later became the very first Maybelline mascara called Lash-Brow-Iine.

To celebrate their 100th year, Maybelline sent me a cute #EyeLoveMNY luggage filled with their best-selling makeup products.

A true cult-favorite

As Maybelline New York lit the sparks of visionary beauty and cosmetics in the 1970s, the mascara in an iconic pink tube with a green cap called Great Lash was born to life. With its striking candy-colored packaging, it easily stands out in any aisle and has therefore become the mascara of choice of any budding makeup artist, or a young girl just starting to explore the wonderful world of makeup. It's a great everyday mascara, and sort of like a first love -- hence people keep coming back to it, even 40 years later.

The great news? Great Lash is now available in the Philippines for a limited time for only Php350, from April 2015 until September 2015, or until supplies last.

These Color Tattoo 24H Cream Gel Eye Shadows (called Color Ink in Japan) are waterproof, smudge-proof products that do not crease yet offer create intense long-lasting color.

A staple in any kikay kit, Colorsensational Lipstick in 5th Avenue Fuchsia is a stunning bright pink that is perfect for any skintone. It's creamy and relatively long lasting, and (most important) color-true. What you see from the tube is the same color that's translated on your lips.

For showstopping nails, they also included the Colorshow Nail Lacquers. These are chip-free  nail polish, free from Formaldehyde, DBP and Toluene.

What's your favorite (or first) Maybelline product?

  1. For me, it was Full 'N Soft Waterproof Mascara at the age of 15. Lakas ng loob kong mag-waterproof as a beginner. :)) That's a nicely curated box. Wish a subscription box would feature those same contents. Glad to see that Great Lash is back, though it's sad that it's an LE, seeing as that's the basic mascara staple in the US.

  2. I love, love Maybelline! I use Maybelline face powder and BB Cream :) The brand is nice to my skin, doesn't give me breakouts and they are affordable too :)
