Tranquil Chill Trio from Human Heart Nature

Only 2 hours to go before we ring in the new year, and I know that I shouldn't be thinking or worrying about stuff but allow me to let it all out before the clock strikes 12. First of all, I'm a little annoyed that the salon I went to today transformed my hair into a bluish/green shade when it was supposed to be Ash Brown. They told me it would wash off in a couple of weeks (!) but I said I had reunions and work starts on Monday so I can't wait that long. Well, in the end I just decided that I should have the color rectified by JuRo Salon Exclusif so I hope to be able to do that this weekend. Serves me right for trying to save by going to another salon. Argh.

Anyway, let me tell you about this awesome gift that was given to us by my Tita. As you all know, I love anything infused with peppermint or mentholated, so this pack was really a great surprise -- not to mention that it's 100% all natural and locally-made.

Presenting the "Tranquil Chill Trio" by Human Heart Nature:

This Christmas bundle contains the ff:

  • 100% Natural Hand & Foot Salve in Eucalyptus
  • 100% Natural Lip Balm in Peppermint
  • Balm for All Seasons Soothing Balm

New discovery: Bobble Water Bottle

Travel bugs will certainly enjoy this new product called Bobble. I've seen this a couple of months ago at The Ramp, Trinoma and spent a good 10 minutes just reading the packaging and deciding whether to get one or not. I was in tipid mode back then so I ended up empty-handed and vowed to pick one up before my Korea trip in December. True enough, I grabbed one Bobble for me and my Dad last week, a few days before I flew out.

Bobbles are fun, reusable bottles that filter water as you drink. It has a colorful carbon filter inside that ingeniously purifies tap water removing chlorine and other impurities, thus making it safe for drinking anytime, anywhere. Bobbles are also FDA-approved BPA free, and free of Pthalates and PVC; great for people who travel, sports enthusiasts, or for those who need to have a handy bottle of water throughout the day.

My main reason for getting one was I needed to pysch myself up to drink water several times a day without spending too much money on bottled water. In turn, this translates into less plastic bottles in landfills. Pretty cool, huh?

Korea Chronicles: My travel-worthy beauty products

Hello everyone! Whenever I pack for a vacation (whether domestic or international), I always *try* to trim down my skin care products in half -- or at least bring multi-tasking products because I don't want to have to scramble every morning getting ready. And how I see it, I don't have the luxury of spending too much time in the bathroom because time's a wasting when you're abroad.

As this is my second time to head to Korea, I sort of knew what I needed already.

Cleansing:

I wasn't about to strip my skin dry from over-cleansing so I brought my Bioderma Sensibio and VMV Moisture Rich Cleansing Milk. Both are gentle and loaded with moisturizing ingredients to remove makeup, excess oils, and other impurities without leaving skin taut. Love that they come in small sizes, too. I got my Bioderma from Singapore and my VMV cleanser was part of a Christmas promo (VMV Glorietta sells travel sizes individually, great buy if you travel a lot and want smaller containers).

Moisturizers:

I have combination skin but I wasn't too keen on switching to more emollient products for fear that they may clog my pores or make me oilier. I brought my Celeteque Water-based Moisturizer (not in photo) which I use during the day under liquid makeup, and my Chia Serum at night which doubles as an eye treatment as well. Coincidentally, I am running a giveaway on the Chia Serum -- check it out here. Chia Oil is making waves abroad and this could be your chance to score one!

For lips, it was a no-brainer -- I brought my Hurraw! Mint Lip Balm though it proved that it couldn't keep with the frosty weather.

Note to self: Bring a more intensive balm next time I head north, Neutrogena Norwegian Formula preferably.

For the lazy: My Fave Micellar Cleansers

It took me a while to get the hang of using micellar water, as I've always made it a point to wash ff makeup at the end of the day. But in the last couple of weeks during my transition into the world of insurance and investments, sometimes I'd get home by 1:00 AM after a slew of meetings with clients, and in turn I'd feel so lazy and tired to wash off my makeup. It was during this time that I have learned to love micellar cleansing waters -- by virtue of it being so easy to use and being able to cut my cleansing routine in half.

What is Micellar Water?

Made of "micelles" which are tiny oil molecules suspended in water, this unique solution has been enjoyed by the French back in the 90s as a way to cope with the notorious harsh water in their region. It's been mainly kept as a French secret, until makeup artists, models, and celebrities started gushing about the no-rinse formula. Now, everyone's raving about micellar water!

Mustela: Nurturing Skin Care for Yummy Mummies & Babies

Mustela has always been on the forefront of providing effective but ultra-gentle products for Moms and babies. I'm not expecting, but Mustela has already become a huge part of my life since I discovered it last year. You can read all about Physiobebe which I used as a gentle makeup remover, and since then it has continued to be part of my skin care routine.

Mustela re-launched their line last year infusing their products with Avocado Perseose, an active ingredient that acts as a shield against external stresses, thus protecting the skin's cellular reserve. And then last October, Mustela presented a few of their bestsellers with improved formulations, plus introduced their Sun Protection line.

The event was held at French modern cafe, Le Creperie, which was a stone's throw away from my then-office, Glamourbox. I seldom attend events but I was very excited to support Mustela and also chat with fellow beauty bloggers.

Review: Healing Herbs Lab Pure Chia Face Serum + a Giveaway!

If you recall, I received my Chia Oil from Healing Herbs Lab on Etsy last November. I've never been so excited to try a new skin care product! Chia oil is currently having a moment as it's touted as the [best] facial oil that can combat wrinkles and skin aging. Heralded as a "wonder" product, Chia oil contains omega-3 oils which boost skin hydration and also treat a number of skin disorders. Chia oil facial serums have been sprouting everywhere and have been costing a pretty penny, why even Gwyneth Paltrow and Miranda Kerr are fans!

My Chia Serum is from Healing Herbs Lab, it is 100% cold-pressed (the chia seeds themselves are from Mexico, non-GMO and organic) and processed in Croatia where the lab is based. I had to clarify exactly what cold-pressed meant so I asked the folks over at Healing Herbs Lab as I was curious about how they extract the oil. They shared:
Cold-pressed oils are derived from a mechanical process. You have to put enormous force and friction on seeds and the oil will steep out of them. The whole process is done at low temperatures and is more expensive, but this method produces higher quality oil with better color and flavors.

When in Singapore: IKEA Tampines

We travelled from Yishun to Tampines to visit the huge IKEA showroom. I can't quite remember how long the travel time was exactly (maybe an hour or so?) and we had several stops along the way. All I can say it that it was terribly far! This is my first visit to IKEA and I was overwhelmed, I wanted to buy so much stuff but of course, I realized I couldn't take them all with me on my trip back. I went with my college friend, Tin, who has been working in Singapore for the past 6 years.

Anyway, here are some snapshots of our "adventure":

When in Singapore: Cozy Corner Coffee

It's easy to get bored and feel like you've seen everything in Singapore. I've been here a couple of times and my rose-colored tourist glasses came off on my 3rd visit. I now see Singapore as it is, crime, trash, traffic included, haha. But, it's still one of my favorite places and it's my top choice for impromptu trips abroad -- alone or with friends and family.

Anyway, every time I visit I make sure to check out at least 1 new establishment, preferably from indie entrepreneurs. This time, we headed to Cantonment Road which was about 30 minutes or so from Yishun (our starting point). We had our friend, Gaurav, escort us along Everton Park which had a strip of small cafes, food places, and ice cream parlors. I was really drawn to Cozy Corner Coffee and so we settled here and had brunch.

The quaint cafe can probably seat about 20+ people, it's very intimate and great for hanging out by yourself or with a few friends. I assume that it's managed by a Mom and Daughter tag team whom we met that day as they manned the cafe, prepared the food, and brewed their own coffee..

Pharmacy Finds from Singapore

I always tell myself never to take the last flight out of a country because the aftermath is exhausting, but lookie here, I did it again! I left Singapore at 9:00PM, arrived in Manila 3 hours and 20 minutes later.I got home past 1:30AM and was up til around 2:30AM talking to my Mom and sister. You could say I was totally knocked out the next day catching up on sleep. I used to do this all the time but I guess with age (ha!), I feel like it's something I cannot sustain. I need my beauty sleep!

Anyway, I didn't go crazy shopping at Singapore this time around mainly because I am saving my money for my 2 upcoming trips, plus this Singapore visit was so impromptu (it took me only 2 days to decide that I needed to fly out to relax). Nevertheless, I visited several pharmacies and took a mental note of what to get next time. Some of them I posted on Instagram so do follow me (@kirasworld) for sneak peeks :)

First and foremost, I love drugstore shopping because they have an amazing assortment of ecocert brands. Like A'kin for example, I've always read about it from green beauty blogs but I've only seen it on the shelves now. They have Rosehip Oil (yay) plus I really like the illustrations on their packaging.

The #BeautifulScience behind Pantene

The right conditioner is crucial when you have digipermed or chemically-treated hair. On a good day I can have glorious, full-bodied curls while on "bad" days my curls fall limp and the ends look really dry. This is why when I find a conditioner that I like -- can adequately moisturize my hair and keep the color vibrant -- I stick with it.

We're told that we have to follow the usual shampoo + condition + treatment mask regimen regularly to keep hair in tiptop shape. But you know what? To be quite honest, I don't have time to actually keep track of that. However with the right product, you can skip the weekly mask and your hair will be fine. Just choose a conditioner that works double duty as a deep moisturizing treatment (hint: Pantene) and add some argan oil to the tips (my personal secret weapon).
