Eyebrow Enhancers: Pencils + Brow Mascara

This weekend, I started reading two new ebooks, had dinner in Yabu with good friends, nursed an allergic reaction (owie!), and ended up watching Sinister on my laptop. How about you? Was your weekend more epic than mine? :D

Anyway, here's a quick post on my favorite brow products. I haven't been to Browhaus as of late, so I've  been doing all the grooming myself, thankyouverymuch. These are my top 3 brow I-can't-live-withouts:

Now Open: Creations by Lourd Ramos Salon in One Archers Place

It's been 2 years since I first set foot into Lourd's Salon, back then his first branch was in Glorietta 5 which (at that time) I'd set out to visit regularly. On some days, I'd have a hair treatment, one some days I just pass by and say hi.

Anyway, since our first meeting where I interviewed him for my POC article, I've recommended Lourd to numerous friends and family members. Lourd always gives personalized service, and will always make you  feel like you're his #1 client once you enter his salon. My sister even swears by his treatments, most especially his prowess at rebonding -- she always gets silky hair, without the fake "stick-straight" look.

Lourd has since branched out and opened 3 more salons at Greenfield, Eton, and One Archers Place. I woke up early today (earlier than most days, anyway) and visited the branch in One Archers Place which is located along Taft Avenue. Okay, I haven't been to Taft in months (save for the time when I took short courses, but then again that was in DLS-CSB SPaCE) and I was amazed at the establishments and residences in the area. During my time (and this was a long, long time ago), I would eat in Pupung, Kenny Rogers, or in UM. Now, Taft Avenue is sprawling with restaurants, spas, salons, you name it!

One of the more recent structures is One Archers Place where you'll find Creations Salon neatly tucked on the second floor. Today was their formal launch and I was excited to check out the place and, of course, see Lourd.

Skin Care for Cooler Weather

This post is somehow inspired by the article we posted over at the Glamourblog. But instead of Van's picks, here are my own, haha.

Although I do delight in the fact that the cooler weather means I become less oily (than the usual), it also means I can "experiment" with richer moisturizers and products. I use the word "experiment" loosely of course, because I am still prone to flare ups with my skin sensitives.

Anyway, if you find that your previously combination skin is acting up due to the change in temperature, then you may have to transition into more weather-appropriate products. Here are some of my picks:

Skin cleanser

I've always though that foaming cleansers were top notch in terms of cleansing. It was only very recently that I discovered the power of cream cleansers. I've had this VMV Red Better Deeply Soothing Cleansing Cream since last year (a gift from VMV) and stashed it in my "to-review" pile hoping to be able to use it someday.

Sweet surrender: My Ultimate Body Sculpt Treatment at Toccare Spa

I've been dying to go back since my first treatment weeks ago. And so recently, I decided to go back to Toccare and avail of the Ultimate Body Sculpt (P3,500), a cellulite and body sculpting treatment that treats cellulite, releases excess fluids from the system, flushes out toxins and firms the skin and body.

Yup, I know what you're thinking. Everyone has cellulite including petite and skinny moi.

Since I was alone this time (at my last session I was with Alex and Tara), I had the whole afternoon to myself. I was able to relax in the jacuzzi and spend 15 minutes in the steam room. After that, I was meticulously measured and then a skin sloughing body scrub commenced. The scrub used was peppered with different spices and I could smell some ginger in it, but I found the scrubbers were rather too abrasive for liking. I asked Jen not to apply pressure too much as my skin is rather sensitive. On my next session, she advised that I can request for a gentler and creamier scrub, one that is more suitable for sensitive skin.

The Number of People Who Meet On Airplanes

A few weeks ago, I was fussing about flying out for a quick 4-day trip to Singapore. My birthday is coming in a few weeks and I wanted to reward myself and relax a bit by flying to my favorite city.

But the odds weren't in my favor as I encountered so many hitches starting with the place I was supposed to stay at and the friends I was supposed to meet. So I am parking my trip for now and just saving my money for Korea in December.

Anyway, I had dinner with a few friends last week and they taught me how to download ebooks for free. Okay, I'm a little bit behind on this. I do read books when it's convenient, but sometimes I'd forget about it or become too preoccupied about work and I'd end up totally abandoning the idea. So I essentially have a pile of half read books at home. BUT with this ebook thing, having all my books in one place seems like a great idea to keep me committed to reading them in the long term.

So the next day, I tried it and ended up spending the whole afternoon just downloading and reading. I was so obsessed with having all my favorite reads in my iPad Mini that I chose to stay home last weekend, haha.

So these are some of the books I downloaded. I've read the paperback versions of 6 of these but still chose to download them for posterity.

Cool down with Snake Brand Prickly Heat Cooling Powder

I feel so blessed that all the products sent my way are items that I can actually use on a daily basis. Sure, I enjoy receiving makeup (who doesn't!), but skin, hair, and bath & body products are the ones that really leave an imprint. If a product is good enough that I use it on a regular basis without fail, and I even repurchase (or hoard) once I run out, then that PR product has served its purpose.

Anyway, I needed to replenish my bathroom items so I peeked into my SM Beauty Box and picked out a few things. I got the Skinklëns Gentle Cleanser and Snake Brand Prickly Heat Cooling Powder, I first heard about the latter from Sandy of The Reading Room.

Snake Brand Prickly Heat powder, developed over 60 years ago, is the original cooling powder, refreshing and soothing powder which is effective in relieving itching, prick heat rash and skin irritation from hot weather. With its fresh scent of natural essential oil, it is perfect for daily family use. Its unique metal package can keep its coolness and natural fragrance fresh for a long time.
Active Herbal: This refreshing energizing powder combines the benefits of several oils from orange and lime, plus extracts from green tea and rosemary which are good for skin hygiene.

Rave: emerginC Relief Hand Cream

There's been a personal ongoing ritual at the Glamourbox office: I'd arrive in the morning, prepare my laptop in my cubicle, then browse the shelves. Sometimes when I'm hit by low EQ-ness, I end up selecting a few goodies and buying them. It's tough working for an ecommerce company with piles of make up and beauty products gleaming on the shelves, just waiting to be picked by beauty enthusiasts such as myself.

My last purchase (which was admittedly during one of those low EQ days) was the emerginC Relief Hand Cream. It was during that time when I was actually running out of my Clinique Deep Comfort Hand and Cuticle Cream. I was getting worried and in dire need of a replacement. I wasn't keen on replenishing it via StrawberryNET because I'm the sort of person who prefers buying in cash rather than card. And did I say I have low EQ? I don't like to wait.

Aaanyway, I've been using the emerginC Relief Hand Cream for a while already and to cut to the chase, I love it!

A rich, nourishing, active cream for hands, feet, elbows and knees.
Active ingredients: Aloe vera, calendula, vitamin E, vitamin C, avocado extract, plant glycerin, palm kernel glycerides, soy oil, green tea, phytelene minerals.
Price: Php 995/125ml

Sweet surrender: My Moor Mud and Gemstone Treatment at Toccare Spa

I can't believe that in a few weeks, I will be celebrating my birthday and turning 32! OMG. When people ask me how old I am, I usually hesitate for a bit before answering. Not because I am embarrassed of my age, but because I need a few moments to remember how old I really am, haha. I was never particular about age, especially my age.

Anyway, I've reached that point in my life where I can afford certain luxuries on a regular basis. As I turn a year older next month, I promise that I'd relax more often and enjoy more ME time. This includes investing in more meaningful and intimate friendships, attracting only positive and good vibes, and loving myself more.

If I had my way, my ideal relaxation is to travel every 2 months (and I did for while), but that wasn't too good for my bank account (haha). So glad that I rediscovered the beauty of spas. As a control freak, a spa is a great way to get away from work and stress, to let go and surrender even for just a few hours.

I discovered Toccare Spa through my high school friend, Mira. Later on, I was able to meet the owner, the lovely Leah Dy, who turned out to be Mira's cousin!

Entering the spa is a memorable experience on its own: I immediately got a whiff of the relaxing scents of spices and lavender, the posh interiors and dim lighting already triggered my "relax mode", and the very helpful therapists are prim & proper and speak in hushed voices.

Review: K-palette Zero Teka Oil Control Matte Powder SPF15 PA++

Now this is why I love scouring SASA and Bonjour, I find a lot of cheap and interesting cosmetics. Take for example, the 0Teka Mat Powder from K Palette. I saw this while shopping last June and was instantly drawn to the "mat" label. Anything mattifying [in powder form] that will help absorb my oilies and I'm sold (FYI, my skin reacts badly to silicone primers). And yes, the little pug design on the corner also influenced me to buy. Pugs are cute! :D

K-palette Zero Teka Oil Control Matte Powder SPF15 PA++ is designed to prevent grease slicks. It gives you a matte, porcelain-like complexion. It also prevents your face from producing excess oil. It includes Hyaluronic acid, Ceramides and collagen.
Hyaluronic Acid is essential for our skin. It's what keeps the collagen in our skin hydrated and maintaining the structural shape. Without hyaluronic Acid our skin would be dry and collagen would lose it's elasticity. Hyaluronic Acid plays an important role in our skin's ability to stay youthful. As we get older, our skin will start to lose the ability to keep hydrated and hold on to moisture. This creates wrinkles and sagginess. While collagen firms skin, it's not effective without Hyaluronic Acid.
Price: USD 15.20 (approx. P660~)

And what better way to kickstart the holiday feeling than with a whole new wardrobe from Ensembles? The new Holiday Collection features designs by Cebuana young designer, Vania Romoff. Born and raised in a family of designers and fashion-savvy individuals, the 24 year old Cebuana grew up around fashion. “Clean lines, flattering silhouettes and a quiet, yet fresh elegance are consistent in my designs making each piece somehow a modern classic”, Vania said.

Empro Triangular Eye Brow Pencil in Blonde

The good thing about beauty boxes is that you discover new brands that otherwise you'd never get the chance to try. When I was in grade school, I'd purchase all the (now defunct) YM magazines and ogle at all the makeup and beauty products that were only available the in the US. I've always been envious of the selection, and secretly wished they'd all come to the Philippines.

Kids nowadays are so lucky, there are so many brands available ripe for their picking. Even local brands are stepping up. When I was in high school, I was very content with just my Maybelline lipsticks, haha.

Anyway, another beauty discovery from Glamourbox is the Empro Triangular Brow Pencil. I've honestly never heard of it before. I am a self-confessed late bloomer in the eyebrow grooming department, so please forgive me.

Empro Triangular Eyebrow Pencil is made of natural ingredients and is suitable for all skin types. It comes in four attractive shades that can draw up to three tones. The triangular shape of Empro’s pencil tip makes it easy to draw a thick line for the first half of the eyebrow, while the thinner tip creates the thin line towards the outer half of the brow. It comes with a brow brush to even out the color, and allows you to frame your face beautifully.
