Review: VMV Hypoallergenics Illuminants Brilliant Finish 25 Powder Foundation

What a great 5 weeks! I just finished the first module of the Marketing Management Diploma course at DLS-CSB SPaCe, a college that offers continuing education for professionals. I had difficulty grasping some concepts at first because I don't have any marketing background, and it was a challenge to juggle 2 jobs plus school. I hope to be able to do better at the succeeding modules, though.

So here we are, a humble class of 19 students with our professor, Sir Jun Umali (President of Gardenia Philippines). Check out my good friend, Mara, beside me (in white).

What I like about SPaCe is that they handpick industry experts to teach the courses. In our case, Sir Jun Umali had extensive experience in marketing from various industries, his concepts were current, practical and very impressive! He was also very funny which made the class even more enjoyable :)

Anyway, before I delve into work again tomorrow (yes, work has unfortunately eaten up my weekends as well), let me tell you about my favorite powder foundation, I've tried several but I always go back to the VMV Hypoallergenics Illuminants Brilliant Finish 25 Powder Foundation

comes with a free luxe pouch
This brightening, protective powder-foundation for all skin types works as an SPF 25 physical barrier against skin-darkening light while masking subtle hyperpigmentations and other imperfections.
Smooth, light, and pore-friendly.
Provides both a silky-sheer powder finish (applied dry), or a rich, creamy texture and flawlessly-full coverage (applied with wet sponge).

Active Ingredient: Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine - 2%
Other Ingredient: Mica, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Talc, Zinc Stearate, Titanium Dioxide, Calcium Carbonate, Lauroyl Lysine, Glyceryl Laurate, Cyclomethicone, Mineral Oil, Dimethicone, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Arachidonic Acid, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Glycerin, Tetrasodium EDTA, *Tocopheryl Acetate.
Price: Php 2,250 / 12g

What I like:

  • validated hypoallergenic, pthalate, paraben, fragrance and preservative-free
  • non-comedogenic, does not cause my pimples or allergic reactions even if applied directly to oily skin without blotting
  • Macadamia shade is a great match to my skintone (I am an NC25)
  • buildable medium coverage when used dry, can cover minor redness and spots
  • gives a matte natural finish but feels lightweight on the skin
  • does not oxidize on me
  • you can purchase the refill separately
  • slim compact that will definitely fit most vanity kits, even fits in your pocket!
  • the brand name is now embossed on the cover
  • best before date is evident on the compact's underside
  • comes in several shades
  • offers SPF 25

What I don't like:

  • oil control is so-so, I oil up within 2 hours (I am really oily in the t-zone!)
  • the Macadamia shade may come off as greyish for some complexions, please head to a VMV counter and swatch the shades to get a perfect match
  • since it has SPF 25, may give a white cast in photos for those with darker skin tones
  • they get sold fast, the Macadamia shade is almost always sold out
  • the brown pouch is really pretty but it's useless for me because it's bulky and I have a vanity kit already

I use the VMV Hypoallergenics Illuminants Brilliant Finish 25 Powder Foundation after my Clinique Derma White Bright-C Liquid Makeup (what's with these long names? They're a mouthful!), it works great to "seal in" the makeup and mattify my skin.

I still blot every so often though (sometimes I use 2-3 oil blotting sheets per day) as it offers only decent oil control, but it's really great for sensitive or intolerant skin. My skin is so sensitive that it reacts badly to silicones and parabens, so I usually stick with products with skin-friendly ingredients. Am glad that I found another keeper from VMV!

Tip: It is a little bit expensive so I always purchase this when VMV goes on sale, 25% discount is a huge thing, no!
