Best of 2012: Brows

Now for the 2nd part of my "Best of 2012" post, BROWS! Well-groomed brows have made a huge difference in my life last year, and yes it took me years before I finally paid attention to everyone (hi Liz and Alex!) who clamored for me to please pay attention to my brows.

Here's how I looked like (straight hair and all) in 2010...

see what I mean? I look so....neneng
...and then I learned how to use brow powder come late 2011. But my skillz still weren't quite there yet and the shape needed  a little work.

Fast forward to a Browhaus event in March of 2012, I got a free eyebrow threading and shaping. I loved the brow makeover but easily went back to my old ways the next day. A few months later, I got so tired of spending so much time in the morning and having to deal with the brow powder fading by afternoon that I decided to visit Browhaus again and take my eyebrows seriously. And the rest, is history.

Up to this day, I set an appointment every month like clockwork. My wayward/non-existent brows are well-shaped and what's more, it only takes me less than 5 minutes to fix my brows in the morning. My sister has also become a Browhaus convert, we even have our sessions together! Take note that your brows won't be perfect after one session. My brow specialist had to grow out hair in sparse areas and I had to wait 2-3 months so patience and consistence is key.

I pay Php 580/session for basic shaping and threading, and I only use the Shu Uemura Hard Eyebrow Pencil (Php 1,400) to shape and shade them.

So here's how my brows look like now:

I say, applying eyebrow pencil is now my favorite thing to do in the morning :) I highly recommend Browhaus for eyebrow grooming and Shu Uemura for shading and filling in brows as these two go hand in hand: it's easier to shade when your eyebrows are properly groomed and shaped to begin with because you only have to follow the arch; and it is also easier to color the brows because of the Shu Uemura's uniquely shaped tip. It's like drawing actual hairs therefore making the brows look natural. I also finish it off with a light brushing with Charm's spoolie brush

So that's it for my favorite products and services of 2012 (check out Skin Savers to read the first half), I wonder which ones will make it to this year's list.

  1. True, it's best to invest in well-shaped brows first. It's very hard to try to draw perfect brows, plus you will look verrrrrry different without your brow makeup on. I've seen several examples of this; they look pretty with makeup on, but with a bare face, they look older and tired.

  2. I love my keeping my brows thick and bold. I have them threaded every three weeks and I use an EB Pencil and My Brow Mascara from ELF to keep
    em tamed :)

    1. Hi Gellie! My brow hairs grow rapidly, too! I need to have them threaded every 3-4 weeks.I can go for up to 2 months (when I'm too busy) but I have difficulty shaping them in the morning na. Methinks the reason for the rapid hair growth is my daily intake of Myra E! Di you take vit. E caps, too?

  3. Back in the day, I used to put on makeup and forget about my eyebrows because I have thick ones so I thought that was enough. But when I learned how to fix my eyebrows, it really made a big difference! Now, I can't go out of my house without putting on eyebrow products. My current favorite is the one from K-Palette! It looks very natural and it is very easy to use. :)

I bought the NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder (after reading your blogpost about it last year *wink wink*), in Dark Brown nga lang though parehas tayo ng hair color.. Mas feel ko lang 2 shades darker sa brows ko lately dahil sa eyeglasses ko.. hehe!
