Super P-nut: Dog of Steel

It's a bird...It's a plane...It's SUPER P-NUT!

Pnut goes back to his roots and dons another superhero costume this year. Back in 2009, my little Chihuahua dressed up as Batdog which created quite a stir online. This year, he goes as another caped crusader who fights against dog injustice (doggie baths and doggie dentals included) by hitting the town as Super Pnut, the dog of steel.

Freeway x Botong: A Salute to Our Greatest Muralist

Marking the 100th anniversary of Carlos "Botong" Francisco, Freeway releases yet another breathtaking collection featuring the artist's greatest murals.

Hailing from Angono, Rizal, Botong spent his college years at the University of the Philippines School of Fine Arts where he was awarded the "Most Outstanding Alumnus" in 1959. Although not a college graduate, he single-handedly revived the forgotten art of mural and remained its most distinguished practitioner for almost three decades. His most popular artworks include the Blood Compact, First Mass at Limasawa, The Martyrdom of Rizal, Bayanihan, Magpupukot, Fiesta, Bayanihan sa Bukid, Sandugo, Portrait of Purita, The Invasion of Limahong, Serenade and Muslim Bethoral.

The Appraisery Lifestyle Hub: Fashion x Coffee

At the end of a stressful week, all I'd like to do is just to kick off my shoes and relax with friends. The Appraisery, a hip new concept store located along Annapolis street, is the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of Makati's CBD (where I hold office, FYI).

There is a homey and welcoming feel upon entering, and it helps that the owners are very friendly and hands-on with the business. You are encouraged to explore, sit on the cushy couch, feel and try on the clothes and listen to good music. You will never feel rushed here.

My Fave Hand Cream: Clinique Deep Comfort Body Butter

I've always been on the hunt for the best hand cream. The word "best", of course, is relative -- I need something that is emollient yet non-sticky or non-greasy, moisturizes my hands and cuticles well without feeling coated. Fragrance-free is preferred but I'll accept mildly scented ones, too.

Last year I received the Clinique Deep Comfort Body Butter (middle, in tube) as a gift or a GWP (I really don't remember). It has been stashed for many months and I only unearthed it recently. Although not labelled as a hand cream, it does a good job of instantly moisturizing my hands and keeping them soft until my next wash.

The Clinique Deep Comfort Body Butter is a rich cream (more creamy than body butter-y ala The Body Shop) that isn't greasy, it does leave a bit of a sheen but not the sort that leaves irritating fingerprints on your keyboard. I spend a good 20 seconds rubbing and massaging my hands to make sure it is absorbed well (I find that this 20-second routine also helps distract my mind and helps rest my hands a bit -- it's not too much of a bother really). And it has this almost buttery scent that is just comforting to the senses.

As you can see from the photo, I really need to purchase a replacement stat (I have this fear of running out all the time, hay). It's not available in the Philippines but I'm glad I spotted a small tub in Bonjour, Hong Kong (HKD 18) and the Deep Comfort Hand and Cuticle Cream in Duty Free in HK International Airport (HKD 180). So yes, I think I'm solved for the next year or so!

What's your favorite or HG hand cream? :)

Stripped, New York Style!

Hair waxing and vanilla cupcakes? What's the connection? Well, in celebration of the brand's 10th year anniversary, Strip recently released their newest wax variant that's beaming with New York pride -- the New York Vanilla Cupcake Wax.

With the yummy fragrance of vanilla, this wax is said to rival the crowd favorite chocolate wax. In true Strip style, their new New York Vanilla Cupcake Wax effectively grabs hair (even as short as 1mm!) and yet is totally gentle on skin.

Madame Tussaud's, Hong Kong Island

Every time I come home from a vacation, I find it terribly difficult to write down all of my thoughts and experiences in just one blog post. The thought of sifting through hundreds of photos and accurately narrating what happened is enough to give one a headache.

But the fun we had at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum is something that every one should experience (if your family is game, that is). Since our hotel was in Kowloon, we had to take a cab to the Peak Tram station where we were to board the Tram which would take us high in the mountains to the Peak Tower.

Wear your rings perfectly with Ring Snuggies!

If you have small, thin fingers like mine then you know how difficult it is to find rings that fit. Usually I'd find myself lusting over a particular ring in Accessorize or Parfois and then become disappointed because even the XS would be a tad loose.

Thanks to Alex, I now discovered Ring Snuggies which are hard plastic thingamajigs that help rings fit better.

Birthday Giveaway: Win a bag full of goodies! - CLOSED

Happy Saturday everyone!

Am I officially a dinosaur?
I bet everyone knows that I turned the big 3-1 this month! It's my last year on the calendar, haha. I don't feel old-er (err..maybe I have become sleepier than usual) and I'm still the same Kira (at least I think so), but I just want to say that I am so happy that you've all been tuning in to my inane thoughts all these years. Yay, I love you guys :)

Anyway, here's a quick giveaway featuring some of my favorite products, brands and services. It's a tad late as I just got back from my trip and was immersed in work, so sorry for the delay.

I'm giving away this roomy aztec-printed bag from Irene of Lean and Fan International. But the clincher is, what's IN the bag?

Magic Hair Removal Wand Dupe

I purchased my Magic Hair Removal Wand in 2009 and I still use it to this day. It still is one of my favorite beauty-slash-hair removal products. The original Multiply shop closed down but don't fret as Watsons now carries their own version of this wonder product.

The only difference is that the one sold in Watsons is thinner and cheaper for only Php 89.00. It is sealed upon purchase so I haven't had the chance to try it since I bought this for Alex.

So there you go! For all my readers who've been bugging me about my Magic Hair Removal Wand, here's your chance to get it for cheap! Just troop to any Watsons branch and grab a few :)

Silka Seaview Hotel, Hongkong

Formerly called the Dorsett Hotel, the Silka Seaview Hotel is a newly renovated hotel along Shanghai Street, Kowloon. We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights. The rooms were relatively small; they were okay for us petite girls but I imagine that foreigners and normal-sized people would find difficulty moving around.

One thing I noticed is that the hotel is very, very clean and orderly. The last hotel we stayed at in Bangkok had bigger rooms but the carpet was rather shabby.

My Suede Ankle Boots

I've been secretly longing for ankle boots since 2009. I don't know why, I just think they look uber cute with floral dresses. Flashback to circa 1990s, I did sport those famous ankle boots with much gusto and paired them with long dresses (oh wow the memories, glad I don't have a photo for posterity!)

Anyway, I almost abandoned all hope of finding a decent pair (and totally forgot all about finding the right boots) when out of nowhere, we spotted a quaint shop called "Kay" along Nathan Road. I tried on some shoes, and boy were they big for me (I am a size 4). They did offer a lot of trendy pairs and we were too consumed with trying on the shoes that we lost track of time, we forgot the parents were patiently waiting outside for us.

OOTD: Avenue of the Stars

A trip to Hongkong wouldn't be complete without a visit to "Avenue of the Stars", a long strip near the Victoria Harbour waterfront in Tsim Sha Tsui that pays tribute to the names that helped make Hong Kong the ‘Hollywood of the East’.

Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation

My Dad comes from a family of doctors. His Mom and Dad (a Dentist and Physician respectively) chose to practice in a small town in Agusan del Norte instead of raking in big bucks in the big city. Sure, the pay was low but the experiences were rich.

I spent most of my childhood in Agusan, swimming in native beaches, going to the market with my cousins, playing with the locals, biking around town and being Dad's "assistant". A visit to our province always taught me humility and compassion. My problems here in Manila (extreme consumerism, so many things to do with so little time, and taking forever to decide where to eat for lunch), are minuscule compared to what people face in our province. Our province is poor and was only recently declared a city. Visiting every year makes me realize how lucky I am to have such a comfortable life, and such a loving family.

Quick Birthday Makeup by Shu Uemura

Before my birthday dinner, I stopped by Shu Uemura Trinoma and asked my one of my fave MUAs, Mitchell, to apply some eye makeup and make me look pretteh. I specifically said no heavy makeup as I didn't want to look too made up (I really don't wear heavy makeup in real life, FYI). Well, he decided to give me a fresh 15-minute makeover anyway --- which I thoroughly loved by the way.

Let's look at the transformation, shall we?

Mitchell applied several stripes of the cream stick foundation and blended it well using a wedge sponge and a brush. The cream foundation brightened my overall complexion and covered redness, spots and blemishes.

I am now a Viking! So where's my dragon?

My first visit to Vikings Luxury Buffet in Mall of Asia! Since we didn't have a reservation, we patiently waited in line for an hour and half. Remember, patience is a virtue, especially when it's your birthday and you're dining for free :D

By 8:30pm we were ushered into Vikings, my heart (and my legs) were skipping! We were so famished from waiting that we were so excited to eat. My first stop was the steak area and oyster area, nomnomnom.

Birthday Lunch at Ma Maison with Ms. Lapa

Every year, I would just choose to exclusively celebrate my birthday with my family and loved ones. But since this year is special, I decided to allot 2 days for my birthday dinner and a few days out of the country. I wanted to be as preoccupied and busy as possible. After all, birthdays are a blur and it could be over before you know it. And yes, you only turn 31 once.

Now since Alex couldn't come to my birthday dinner (why oh why does the "X Factor Phils." finals have to be on my birthday??), she treated me to a special lunch in Ma Maison (plus showed me a tweet from my namesake).

Time Capsule

My birthday is this weekend! And as I turn a year older, I unearth my baby photos to reminisce about the good ol' days and to help me realize how blessed I am to have had such doting parents and an animated childhood.

I've been riding PAL since birth!

The Two Loves of My Life: P-nut and Komiki

P-nut is the first and only Chihuahua that I purchased with my own money. I was fresh out of college then and even though I wasn't looking for a pet at that time, our Vet decided to visit us and bring a box-full of puppies. Gaah, baby anythings are sooo irresistible! I carried him in my arms, he licked my finger and the rest is history. He has been my little man ever since.

The one thing that separates him from most Chihuahuas is his huge-ass apple head -- his head is so round that I've received numerous exclaims from family members and friends. There's baby P-nut in the photo above (far right) sleeping with his sister and brother.
