Special Feature: Winners of my Azta Urban Salon Giveaways

Here's a special blog post on the winners of my Ombre and Digiperm giveaways courtesy of Azta Urban Salon. I've received emails from them that the makeovers were truly life changing so I hope this inspires them (and my other readers) to experiment more with hairstyles and hair colors once in a while :)

First up, Mishie Rendon. Mishie is a ex-cheerleader, future lawyer and yummy Mommy to Z. She really needed something to amp up her look, and winning the contest was just serendipitous! She opted for a blond ombre which gave more texture and dimension to her hair. You can read about her experience here.

With my sensitive skin (that reacts to even organic/natural products), I need all the help I can get.

Glamourbox is the first premium online beauty subscription in the country, providing Filipinas with the best way to discover the latest beauty trends from across the globe.

How does it work? Here's the skinny:

Once you subscribe, each month you will receive an elegant box with five deluxe beauty samples from premium, boutique and niche brands delivered to your doorstep. Glamourbox carefully curates each box with worthwhile items, so you don’t have to weed through all the duds out there.

Pink Kurve Brings Sexy Back!

Have a little fun while enhancing your assets with Pink Kurve! Started in 2004 by couple Carlo and Kaye Garcia, the brand was initially named "Hot Pink" and was the premier local lingerie brand that offered fun and playful lingerie in the Philippines. I distinctly remember passing by Hot Pink in college (back then it was in Robinsons Place Malate) and finding all the lace and mesh sexy ;)

Eight years later, Carlo and Kaye decided to add oomph into Hot Pink and bring in high-end brands that are not only renowned worldwide, but also feature the latest technologies in the intimate apparel industry. Hence, Pink Kurve was born and opened its doors to customers in June of 2012. Pink Kurve now offers four brands in their flagship store on the second floor of Powerplant Mall, Makati namely Body Wrap, Sassybax, Pull-in, and Le Mystère.

My Soul Card Reading Session

I went to Cubao Expo the other day for my Soul Card Reading session with Sandy. I was ushered to a small room on the second floor of The Reading Room for my one o'clock appointment. I didn't know what to expect. I had known Sandy for many years but this is the first time I will be consulting [with] her. The room was quaint and welcoming, I was told that it was also dubbed the "crying room" because more often than not, all your emotions will pour out once Sandy "reads" the cards.

Albeit my initial hesitation, I was happy I had my cards read. Take note that Sandy is not a fortune teller (she loathes that term) rather she reads the person brave enough to sit in front of her (in this case, me), intellectually discuss any personal problems or agendas and answer any questions that person may have pertaining to the future.

The moment I sat down (despite my usual cheery personality), Sandy knew what was bothering me. She said I look exhausted and although my quick reaction was to blame work, she said, "No, something else is bothering you. You are extremely exhausted." Sandy was referring to something more personal. I was emotionally exhausted. Extremely.

Photo Story: Vintage [Window] Shopping at Cubao Expo

It's been 4 years since I visited Cubao Expo (do you remember the LomoManila events there? Tee-hee). And the only reason I went today was for my Soul Card reading session with Sandy. Will blog about that soon, for now here are some photos of that quaint antique shop that Alex and I visited:

Majolica Majorca Pressed Pore Cover

I was in search of translucent powder for many weeks, I went around Landmark looking for something interesting to try. My previous VMV Illuminants Powder Foundation was okay, but I wanted something that was finer in texture.

And then all of a sudden, I remembered my Majolia Majorca Pressed Pore Cover (Php 850) which I got from a press launch last year (or was that 2 years ago?). I've heard many people rave about it so it was only fitting that I try it out and review it on my blog.

I can exceed my limitations!

My dad used to be a tennis player. If you get to meet him, he'll tell you loads of stories of us back in the 80s. He'd bring me to his matches and his weekly practices, and I would actually watch. Sometimes (as most 5 year olds would do), I'd wander off and look for butterflies in the nearby garden.

He's proud of this particular story: One day I got bored watching him practice, and so I asked him if it's time to go home already. While backswinging he replied, "Soon, sweetheart. We'll go home soon." By the 6th time I asked the question, he still gave same response.

I got fed up and the 7th question I asked was, "How do I get home, Daddy? I turn left, then turn right and I should reach the gate right? Then I walk to the left turning towards Funcion Street...". Dad thought that was so funny he stopped practice and took me home. Haha, I already was an impatient runt back then and I was dead serious about going home all by myself.

The Mane Event: JuRo Salon Exclusif

In a perfect world where glamorous hair abound, there wouldn't be any bad hair days, flyaways, botched dye jobs and uneven cuts. My hair has been chemically-treated since last year and would you believe, my last haircut was 9 months ago. I say, my hair has been crying for attention. It's frizzy, dry and the color has faded.

And what was stopping me from getting a well-deserved hair cut? I was honestly scared that I might lose my curls and my Php 3,500 (for the digiperm) would just go down the drain. I wanted someone who knows how to cut hair. Nay, I needed someone with skillz.

Magically, the heavens answered and an invite from ARC Public Relations landed on my lap. I was invited to try out JuRo Salon Exclusif. I've heard of Jude Hipolito though I've never met him. I knew that he was THE precision hair cutter who mentored all the renowned hairstylists in the country. Needless to say, I was more than excited to meet the master.

How do you exfoliate?

I suffered horrendous pimples a few months ago, click here and here. As a last resort, I went to Flawless Facial Center and had a Nano Power Peel (more on this soon). Fast forward to 2 months later, my skin has greatly improved (some bloggers even noticed, yay!) and my breakouts lessened.

As per the Aesthetician at Flawless, perspiration catches dirt and clogs pores so regular exfoliation is a must. Add the fact that I commute to and from work (hello pollution), it's easy to see why I end up having comedones on my hyperactive t-zone.

I never realized that I exfoliated on a daily basis, not until I thoughtfully paid attention to all the stuff I've been using. I've been using these products regularly for a few months already, so they must work right? Let me share with you how I gently exfoliate my way to clear skin:

1. Mosbeau Placenta White All-in-One Soap (Php 400)

Sorry if I sound redundant, but the Mosbeau Placenta White All-in-One Soap has helped lighten blemishes and smoothen my skin. I use this everyday. The citric acid is said to help with the exfoliation. I love this so much I have 2 waiting in the wing. FYI, I don't use the net because I'm lazy like that, haha.

2. VMV Id Clarifying and Firming Toner (Php 150)

I've been using the toner my Derma has prescribed for the last 10+ years, but once a week I spike my routine with the Id Clarifying and Firming Toner. The salicylic acid content helps clear pores and rid of deep-seated dirt. The small bottles above are only Php 150 each, part of a clearance sale from VMV Glorietta.

3. Forever Flawless Nano Power Peel

Every end of the month (or every 6 weeks max) I have a facial plus a Nano (crystal) Peel for optimum exfoliation. The peel effectively removes dirt and dead skin cells plus lessens oiliness. It is pricey at Php 2000 but the 2-hour session is just pure bliss. I have mine done by Mhel at Flawless Trinoma.

So there. My skin is not perfect, I still have pimples during that time of the month or on really stressful days, but it's easier to manage now. One thing I've also noticed is that my overall skintone has become brighter :)

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye

Are you one of those people who sleep face flat on the bed? Or sleep on their side? Tsk, tsk. I've been told that sleeping in those positions may increase wrinkles and facial lines. Try as I might, I can't seem to sleep on my back for long.

The skin around the eyes is said to be thinnest and as such is very much prone to environmental damage and stress. I admit that when I take off my makeup/sunscreen at the end of the day, I hastily rub the Cetaphil-soaked cotton on my face and around the eyes. Eeep! Needless to say, I am not so careful all the time and so I need an eye cream that can help moisturize and prevent wrinkles around the eyes.

Last year I won a sample of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye with Synchronized Complex together with other Estee Lauder goodies. Off that bat, let me tell you that it is very much like a serum -- it is non-greasy and acts as a primer for moisturizer/sunscreen. This absorbs easily and dries with a silky smooth finish.

I am constantly searching for something.
Exactly what, I do not know.
It feels like looking for that elusive puzzle piece that never seems to want to be found.
And so I try each and every day, to make my life more meaningful.
But it never will be until I find what it is I am truly searching for.

Have you ever felt that way?

“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life.
It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.”

Roundup: My Mom's Skin Care & Makeup Faves

My Mom and sister are usually at the receiving end of products that get sent my way. I try to use each and every product and blog about them (when something is posted here it means that it has been tested thoroughly for weeks) but sometimes I can get overwhelmed with all the products! I'm so glad that my Mom and sister also share my passion for skin care, so they can be my guinea pigs once in a while. Tee-hee.

Anyway, I've always been vocal about my Mom's perfect caramel skin. She is 62 yet her skin is flawless, she doesn't even look her age!

OOTD: Break the Monotony

Went out today to watch "The Possession", a movie where the "dybbuk" (a Jewish demon) is contained in a little chest and is on the search for a body to possess. The dybbuk preferred the innocent and pure of heart. Well, the movie wasn't really that scary ("Insidious" still takes the cake), it was just okay. Believe me, after watching you will still be able to sleep without a night light on ;)

Now who's excited to watch "Sinister" and "Insidious 2"? *Kira raises hand and waves it frantically*

I wanted to take a break from wearing jeans (I've been wearing them all week) and took my favorite tiered skirt out for a spin. On account of having too many blacks and greys in my closet, I used my new satchel thoughtfully sent by Irene of Lean and Fab for that much-needed touch of whimsy.

Popeyes Singapore

One of the things you definitely shouldn't miss while in Singapore is Popeyes. Opened in 1972 by Alvin C. Copeland, Sr., it was initially named "Chicken on the Run" and served only Southern-fried chicken. After several months of lackluster performance, it was renamed to "Popeyes" and served the now popular spicy New Orleans-style chicken. A few years later, in 1983 specifically, their signature buttermilk cookies became a permanent and significant menu item.

I don't know if you guys remember, but Popeyes opened in the Philippines a few years back and was situated in Robinsons Galleria. They did close down eventually though :(

Zen Zest Signature Fragrances

My favorite Zen Zest scent is Tangerine, which to me is sort of like a mixture of cucumber and melon. It's a very refreshing scent that has been with me all through out my first few years as an eRep (guess where I worked? Haha).

Always ahead of the pack, Zen Zest now introduces their new signature collections that are definitely a must-try. See, you don't have to spend much to smell fab everyday. These are perfect stocking-stuffers, too!

BERRY COBBLER – A fruity recipe of raspberry raspberry and blueberry with traces of creamy vanilla.

COTTON CANDY – Has a playful, fluffy fragrance reminiscent of youthful innocence.

WATERMELON SORBET – Light and refreshing, this fresh mist is a great revitalizer. It keeps temperature low but spirits forever high. Reminiscent of fresh and ice cold watermelons.

KEY LIME PIE – One splash is never enough. The sharp scent of green key lime and the comforting warmth of milk lingers on the skin, soothes and soul and makes you want to ask more.

CHERRY CHEESECAKE – One whiff instantly reveals the combined fragrance of slightly tart cherries, calming vanilla and saccharine honey. The luxurious combination fills the air with sugar, spice and everything nice.

VANILLA ICE CREAM – The allure of this scent is difficult to forget. The delicious scent of fresh vanilla beans and velvety goodness of milk with light honey undertones.

Share: Argan Oil for Skin and Hair?

Argain Oil is the next big thing. I've heard so many people sing its praises, and if you notice (or scrutinize cosmetic labels like I do) almost all beauty and cosmetic products today purport to contain this "liquid gold" ingredient.

While I wasn't too sold on the idea initially, Jude Hipolito (master cutter and hair stylist extraordinaire) highly recommended that I use this to revive my dry and chemically-damaged hair. He was pitching the original Moroccan Argan Oil which cost about Php4,000+, I could only afford this Snoe Beauty alternative which costs only Php 799. Both are said to contain 100% Argan oil which means the benefits should be identical, right?

I can't write a proper review just yet as I only started using this today, I want to know if Argan Oil in general worked well for you. Do you use it on your face/body/hair? What changes have you noticed? Which brand do you use, how much did you pay for it and how long did it last?

Feel free to comment below and let me know if indeed this is a wonderful product :)

Kasalang Tucay-Villavicencio: A Wedding That Melted My Heart

I don't normally enjoy going to weddings, but for my shrink, I had to make an exception. After all, he was there for me for the past 8 years (?). No matter what the problem (boy problems or work problems) he would always lend an ear and give sound advice. I feel so lucky to be his friend.

Last Saturday (after my JuRo makeover which I shall blog about soon), I headed to Camp Crame and witnessed my friend, Tony, marry the love of his life, Paola.

Rockin' 50s Music by The Daddy O's

It's been such a busy week (month-end is usually crazy for us people in the PR/Marketing industry, so let me leave you with a video that made me (us) swoon at Universal Studios.

I apologize if the video is a little shaky, I was swaying while they were performing. These cuties were truly worth the wait as they only perform at designated times in front of Mel's Diner.

Have you seen these guys perform in Universal Studios?
Aren't they just cutie pies? :)
