Weekend chatter (and how my skin looks like now)

I am always extra grateful when companies send me their new stuff to try. I know that I haven't updated this blog as often as I used to, I blame work (still adjusting to the "day job") as usual.

These are some of the new items that I received recently. Wish I could write a thorough review on each, but as it is I only have 1 face and as of the moment it is not looking so good. I blame work again for my breakouts.

See, I have been working from home for the last 4-5 years and am not used to waking up early anymore, haha. So my skin has been terrible lately. I've tried the Flawless Nano Power Peel to help lighten the spots left by my old pimples, I'll blog about that after a few more sessions for a more accurate review/testimonial. My skin has always been crazy sensitive so I am trying to keep my skin care routine as simple and basic as possible, so I really have to wait it out to see the effects.

For now, these are some of the stuff that are waiting to be reviewed, and if you do use any of them do let me know how they fare.

I've been using the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye ever since I got a small sample last year. The rest though I am still excited to try.

So how's everyone doing? Kindly share your secrets to expediting the lightening of pimple spots, patience is not one of my strongest virtues :p

Must-try: Toro Restaurant and Bar

What I love most about the Makati and Fort areas is their extensive selection of restaurants. One of the restaurants I always hear of but have never gone to actually try is Toro Restaurant and Bar.
A dining experience marriage of flavors from Okinawa to Tijuana. Located in the heart of Bonifacio Global City, Toro is a quaint and charming spot for anyone looking to let their senses run wild with an explosion of flavours. We compel you to indulge, relax and experience an atmospheric blend of funk and serenity.
Owned by the entrepreneurial and well-travelled Genomal Brothers who are foodies by heart, they came together and decided to share their experiences and knowledge of food to the world.

Essentially, Toro offers Japanese dishes with the flavorful blend of Mexican spices. You'll get a kick out of their dishes, so let's get started shall we?

Upon entry you'll be greeted by an original Filipino painting of a geisha adorned by bulls and matadors. The restaurant is quaint yet beckoning, I couldn't wait to try their food.

Pork Gyoza with Bacon Reduction Sauce Php 380 - I ordered this first, and found it to be pretty good. The pork was so tender and the sweetened sauce complemented it well. I think I ate about 4 pieces, haha.

What happens in Boracay....

A lot of people still don't find it work-related when the company sends you to Boracay to participate in a mini food-tasting event. Really now, doesn't downing 100+ dishes in 2 days seem like work to you?

Here's a quick photo story of what happened in Boracay. I know some people will get a bitch fit if I post uninhibited photos (you know who you are, haha!) so these are all edited and wholesome photos to protect the identity of the crazy *wide grin*

my first time to fly via Seair!

Sea Wind: Boracay as it should be

Last week, the ARC Public Relations and Outsmark team (this is me!) went to Boracay for work. Yes, you read that right -- we were all headed to sunny Boracay to shoot a video for a client. What fun right?

Unfortunately I do not have a ton of outfit shots and beach photos (as other bloggers would prolly be excited to show you), rather I have photos of the place where we stayed. It was so awesome, to say the least. I mean, I love beaches but I detest crowded and populated areas. I would rather lounge by the pool or swim in peace and get a tan. So if you're anything like me, I'm pretty sure you'll love Sea Wind in Station I, too.

First Look: The New Lancome Counter in Rustan's

Lancome invited us to witness the ribbon-cutting of their new counter in Rustan's, Shangri-la Mall. The result is a more inviting and luxe counter, with a beautiful facial cabin set to open next month. In case you missed it, here are a few photos from that event with my dear blogger friends:

Scentsational: Aura by Swarovski and Charriol Show-Off

Now that the summer season is *over*, I am parking my beloved Tartine et Chocolat and gravitating towards more intense and sophisticated fragrances. My picks?

Aura by Swarovski has always been a staple ever since I got it last August. The fragrance itself is clean and refreshing, a definite pick-me-upper in our drab weather.

Another favorite is Charriol Show-Off, whose bottle design reminds me of college days and that famous Charriol bracelet that everyone sported. The purple hue just beckons, and the scent itself is quite pleasing with its floral, fruit, woody combination.

What about you, what are your favorite scents? Share!

OOTD: Cute as a button

What I wore to our emo-slash-movie night last weekend. My officemate once (or rather, always) tells me, "Kira, you look like a kid!" To which I retort, "I know. I am after all, only 12 years old!"

Haha, okay I'm kidding.

Crochet top: Lush Angel at BU | Floral shorts: SM Dept. Store
Mustard Bag: SM Dept Store | Flats: Ferretti
Anyway, I'm back in the groove! Thanks to everyone who left sweet messages, you guys are the best! On another note, my hair is so long na, no? There's still a little bit of curl/wave to it, though. Must schedule another perm by August before the dreaded Holiday rush.

What's everyone up to these days?

My Snoe Beauty Staples

I'm starting to explore the Snoe Beauty brand, and so far 2 products have made their way into my beauty routine.

My Emu.Tox (Php 449)  has been around since March (review here) and it's almost empty! It was such a god-send during the really hot summer months. I use this as a night serum/moisturizer, it's so lightweight and non-greasy (no oil in the morning when I wake up, too!) that my combi-oily skin sure loves it.

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Launch: Exciting New Products!

Ever since I was introduced to the Neutrogena BB Cream in January, I've never stopped using it. The non-greasy and extremely lightweight formula was too good to pass up, and as such it has been my skin savior last summer. And it has SPF 19 to boot, awesome huh?

Imagine my excitement when I found out about Neutrogena's newest offerings. Here's a sneak peek at what happened at last Friday's Media/Blogger launch:

Win a Red Mango Date with Me and Krissy! - CLOSED

Sad that summer's over? Fret not, for we can still relive those cherished summer moments with the new Red Mango Yuzu Lemon flavor.

What’s a Yuzu? “Yuzu is actually a Japanese citrus fruit that tastes like a milder more delicate version of the regular Meyer lemon,” explains Red Mango president, Sherika Tanmantiong. “We’re excited to reveal our Yuzu Lemon frozen yogurt because it’s a flavor that’s sure to tickle the taste buds and bring refreshment for what will be a very hot summer here in the Philippines.

Being a frozen yogurt enthusiast, new flavors and combinations really excite me! Aside from its tart and exciting flavor, the Yuzu Lemon flavor in particular also has added benefits as lemons can help relieve many digestion problems including nausea, heartburn, bloating and belching. And as if that wasn’t enough, lemons are also natural antiseptics and can help cure skin-related problems. As a vitamin-C rich fruit, it rejuvenates the skin from the inside out and brings a glow to your face. For the health buffs, check this out: “At only 157 calories for every 100 g serving, Yuzu Lemon frozen yogurt will be a great way to take advantage of lemon’s health benefits and still have that little moment of creamy guilt-free indulgence,” says Tanmantiong.

OOTD: That Denim Dress

Wearing my favorite denim dress (again!) from Forever 21 to another ARC Public Relations press launch on Amanda Griffin's new show (deets to follow). This dress is so comfy and well, is my default outfit when I'm in a rush. This time I skipped the necklaces and opted for several classic bracelets and blue/brown wedges.

I'm with Bea Raralio of Davines Philippines in the photo below, and was taken at (where else!) Aria Cucina Italiana.

Woohoo, in case you were wondering about my previous tweet, I am wearing my new wedges from Shoo In, the sister brand of Suki. They have size 4 shoes and they are proudly Marikina-made, too! I'll do a separate feature on them, don't worry.

With some of ARC's favorite bloggers -- Me (haha), Krissy, Angel and Marco.

Happy weekend everyone! :)

A Charcoal Toothbrush?

I got wind of the Watsons Charcoal Toothbrush at the last Watsons Beauty Lab event, and have been trying to get a hold of it ever since. It was always MIA in all Watsons/SM stores that I thought it was some sort of an urban legend. That or maybe it never really existed at all, haha.

And then lo and behold, I spot it 3 months later while shopping for toiletries in SM San Lazaro (of all places!). I was excited and immediately got 2 packs, they were only going for Php39.75 so it wouldn't really hurt if in the end the charcoal bit would only turn out as a marketing ploy.

I used this a few times already, and one thing that's noticeable is the very sift bristles. I'm sort of having difficulty with the handle because it is made of smooth plastic (has the tendency to slip while brushing), wish it had some rubber grips on it. But then again I really can't ask for more because it's only Php 39.75 :P

There is no way to check if it really does contain charcoal, I'll see if the dark bristles fade in the future due to constant use.

What about you, have you encountered a charcoal toothbrush before? Would you be willing to try this?

The Best of Levi Celerio by Freeway

Known for creating gorgeous and meaningful frocks based on our national artists' creations, Freeway now wows us with their newest collection inspired by Levi Celerio's genius works and compositions.

Levi Celerio is a composer and song writer. Famous for being a lyricist, his songs treasure life; express nationalistic sentiments and complete grand philosophies. He is best recognized as a Guinness Book of World Record holder for being the only person able to make music using just a leaf. Celerio was proclaimed National Artist for Music and Literature in 1997. A celebrated genius, Levi Celerio remained humble and lived a rather simple life until his demise in 2002 at the age of 91.

The  new Freeway National Artist Collection Series includes beautiful modern tailored dresses, sublimation print graphic tees, woven tops in chiffons and poplins, sexy printed knit mini dresses and accessories printed with words and lyrics from some of the most famous works of Celerio which includes Sa Ugoy ng Duyan, Saan Ka Man Naroroon, Ikaw ang Mahal Ko, Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw, Ang Pipit and O Maliwanag na Buwan. It’s Freeway’s way of honoring Levi Celerio and his rich legacy to Philippine music.

Here are some of my picks from the collection:

Off shoulder sublimation knit tunic top with galaxy print and Levi Celerio's "Ang Daigdig Ko'y Ikaw" lyrics
Tailored knit jersey printed long sleeved dress with Levi Celerio's "Sa Ugoy Ng Duyan" lyrics
Color Block Chiffon Top with Printed Detail & Levi Celerio's "Ang Pipit" lyrics
Freeway gathered both fashion and music enthusiasts, media and bloggers, and the family and friends of Levi Celerio to celebrate the life and works of the Filipino music prodigy last June 4 at The Row. It's been a long time since I graced a Freeway event, but I was more than happy to support Levi Celerio and of course, hang out with all my blog friends.

What went down at Bloggers United 3

At the first Bloggers United I was an avid shopper, at the second I was a no-show (sorry Alex!), and at the last one I was one of the exhibitors, sharing a booth with Alex and Lauren. I tell you, Bloggers United is one of the most fun events I've been to this year. I can't wait to join the next one in December!

That said, be prepared for a bombardment of photos in this post. Ready? Let's go!

I arrived at the venue early, like around 9:00 AM. Everyone was still setting up since the doors were set to open at 11:00 AM. That's Kryz Uy in the photo above setting up her booth.

And this is our booth! Can you spot Alex? :D
