Kris Kringle (also entitled: I think my Mommy is a serial killer)

We all had our Kris Kringle last week before the most awaited Christmas break. Since there were technically only two of us who came from corporate offices with prior Kris Kringle experiences, we had to devise a plan and create mechanics for our first ever company Kris Kringle. Thank you Krissy and Marco for helping out :)

The gist is: there were 3 gift themes in total (one per week) with a budget of Php 50/gift then a major gift by the 4th week with a minimum budget of Php 500. The big reveal was to happen on the last working day before Christmas. To spice things up, there will be corresponding consequences and rewards if you incorrectly or correctly guess who your "Mommy" is.

Most of our co-workers felt that the initial mechanics were "far too complicated", in the end everyone just decided not to follow the rules. Heh.

Anyway, for the past 2 weeks til the last day of work I've been complaining incessantly because although I've been very responsible with giving my weekly gifts to my "Baby", my "Mommy" was so kuripot and only put 1 gift for me in the designated Kris Kringle box (which was stationed in my cubicle, FYI). So by the last day I was really, really whining out loud to the point that my "Mommy" handed me my 3 remaining gifts and said: "Okay I'm your Mommy, now open the damn gifts!" Haha, yay. My wish was granted.

I don't have proof yet...but I think my "Mommy" is a serial killer.

Online Christmas shopping at

Online shopping has really played a huge part in accomplishing my Christmas shopping this year. One of the sites I regularly go to is They have quite an assortment of impressive gifts (for your loved ones or for yourself) that you have to practice a little bit of restraint when "window" shopping. If I had my way I'd splurge on the Papaya wallets and bags, but I decided to save my money and buy only necessary gifts.

These came in the mail a few days after purchase. Orders are thoughtfully wrapped in sturdy AVA boxes, and then wrapped again in another brown box. The AVA team really makes sure that your purchases are secure and will survive the long journey to your doorstep and arrive in pristine condition.

What's inside my Glamourbox Holiday Glow box

When I was a child, one of the most memorable things about Christmas was travelling to the province for vacation, playing with my cousins and of course, unboxing my gifts on Christmas morning -- I always try to be awake by 4A.M. so that I'll be the first to rummage through the gifts under the tree! So much determination back then when I was young, haha. To this day, I still feel the same joy whenever I get home and discover that I my orders have arrived or I've received a special gift from well-meaning PR agencies and companies.

Yesterday my December Glamourbox arrived and I was giddy with delight! Oooh, what does Glamourbox have in store for me today, I thought to myself. Here's a peek at Glamourbox's December box filled to the brim with prettifying skin care products, fragrances, plus special discount coupons to some of our country's most trusted brands.

Rose Pink Sneakers

Everyone was so focused on doomsday or the end of the world, but I wasn't bothered. I was so looking forward to Christmas vacation and eating all the Christmas ham at home (haha). I was also excited to hand everyone their presents, my gifts to everyone this year was well thought out and I did spend more money for the parentals. All in all, I am confident in my gift choices.

For the last day of work (for this week anyway), I veered towards the casual. Alex liked my pants a whole lot and described it as "so un-Kira." I think that would be a good thing, yes? After all, everyone's used to seeing me in girly and dainty clothes, a little ruggedness wouldn't hurt. But yeah, I had to squeeze in something pink in my ensemble.

A little story on my H&M sneakers: I have long been searching for a pair of dainty sneakers and I got these in Hong Kong. It's a little big but I love the rosy pink hue. FYI: I only own one pair of sneaks, haha.

Cardigan: bazaar | White sleeveless top: Plains & Prints | Boyfriend jeans: Cotton On
Watercolor print bag: Ferretti
Rose pink sneakers: H&M
Tassel necklace: Chocolate Clohing Co. | Skull Bracelet: Gift from Anne (Kris Kringle)
A Kris Kringle post coming up next --- check out what went down at our company's first Kris Kringle ever! A lot of people didn't follow the rules and it was so funny!

The New Limited Edition Ptisenbon Tartine et Choclat

My adoration for this sunny lemon balm scent started in March with my first bottle. One whiff and I was hooked, the mild scent was perfect for me and our warm (nay, hot!) weather. The refreshing scent is great on really hot, humid and sticky days when heavy perfumes seem so inappropriate.

So, armed with my Christmas pay I went to the mall and purchased another bottle for only Php 2,400 (regularly priced at Php 3,200). To my delight, Givenchy has added more cuteness to the packaging -- a house solely to house the Ptisenbon Tartine et Choclat (pun intended). Ooooooh!

Can you spot it?

The Ink Squad: Graphic Tees by YOU!

I first encountered The Ink Squad back in 2005 during one of my bazaars at Rockwell, and I found the team (Trina and Ramon) to be quite a friendly bunch. I loved their quirky designs!

The Ink Squad is a local creative community that believes in a design democracy meaning YOU submit shirt designs, YOU choose what you like, YOU wear shirts you like. It's pretty straightforward! And get this: if someone else buys a shirt with your print on it, you get 5% royalty!

Ink Squad has been dormant for a while and I'm happy to report that they are back! Oh how I missed Galgathor! I was given the chance to score my own limited edition tee, and it finally arrived last week.

Digiperm Partie Deux at Beauty Brick

Last November 16, I finally chopped off my long hair and had a second digiperm at Beauty Brick. For a rundown of my first digiperm hair story, please click here. Having it done at Beauty Brick was a no-brainer: they were the only salon able to successfully perm my hair plus the perm lasted quite a long time (almost a year) so in my opinion, it's really sulit.

If you're a first-timer, I would suggest avoiding the holidays at Beauty Brick. The main difference between last year and this year's salon visit? The place wasn't packed! Hallelujah! I had mine December of 2012 and the place was teeming with people, so much so that it can get stressful for those who are scared of crowded places.

Eye of Horus Natural Mascara

I've always been skeptical of natural cosmetics. I mean, without preservatives or thickeners, how can one expect them to perform as well as their department store counterparts? I've tried foundations made with natural or organic ingredients and they've disappointed me in more ways than one. But that doesn't mean I won't stop looking...I think the perfect natural makeup brand is still out there (Korres, when are you coming to the Philippines?)

Anyway, one of the products I received from the Glamourbox November box was the Eye of Horus Natural Macara which I've honestly never heard of before. Here's the description as lifted from the Glamourbox site:

VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum

I always tell people that I grew up using VMV and this is more proof that I've seen the brand "evolve" and change packaging various times, not to mention the numerous price increments over the last decades (from Php 100+ for a lipstick back in the '90s to Php 1,050 today). Oh how time flies, 2012 is almost over.

Anyway, my favorite eye treatment of the moment is the VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum (Php 1,880) which I got as a gift from the brand last year. The photo above shows how it used to look like and was formerly labelled as "Glykeros Eye and Lip Lift Contour Serum". I've long been using the old version (in silver tin pump), but I later moved on to other eye creams that needed to be reviewed and sort of forgot about VMV.

Katsu Cravings: Visiting Yabu in Robinsons Magnolia

When was the last time I ate in Yabu? I asked myself one sunny morning. It's been 3 months, methinks. Time for another dose of Katsu.

And so a craving has been born. We scheduled a visit to this famous Katsu place at their new branch in Robinsons Magnolia. A lot of people have been raving about it (the mall and the Katsu) that we were more than excited to take a drive on a lazy Monday afternoon.

Yabu was located on the lower ground floor where the food court is. Odd right? But at least the restaurant is huge:

Nothing can be truer than fairy wisdom. It is as true as sunbeams.

I've long been searching for the perfect maxi skirt (I say perfect a lot, don't I?). It took me a while but I finally found it in the prettiest old rose shade...and in Hong Kong no less! I had to haggle hard to get it, so much so that the seller felt so exasperated and finally accepted my offer and ended with a, "You are Filipino, yes?"

Yup, Filipinos know how to drive a hard bargain.

I wore this to the office last week and everyone said I looked like a fairy. One of our *few* male employees quipped, "FYI I am straight, but I really like your skirt." The image above is am "ambush" photo taken by our graphic artist, Farhannah, in the conference room.

A day with my Birthday Giveaway winner

I'm not as outgoing as other bloggers, but I do like meeting my readers once in a while. Last month I spent a day with the lovely Eunice Alcala who won my birthday giveaway. We decided to meet in The Appraisery (which is my favorite hangout every weekend) for their delish coffee and yummy sandwiches.

The Neutrogena Philippines store is now OPEN!

Happy weekend folks! For those of you who are on a staycation (Kira raises hand!), take this time to relax, catch up on sleep, play with your dog and read a good book. And for the shopaholics, it's also the best time to get some shopping done as well! Hate crowded malls and traffic? Then shopping online is the answer to your problems!

Neutrogena finally jumped on the bandwagon and launched their online store which is accessible via their Facebook page. Last week, we were invited to an intimate dinner in M Cafe to experience the ease of shopping online for our favorite Neutrogena products.
