Shopping at Bugis Street & Bugis Junction, Singapore

Prior to jetting off to Singapore, we made sure that we'd be staying in a hotel that was walking distance from the famed shopping destination Bugis Street and Bugis Junction. Bugis is popular for scoring cheap finds, sort of like Greenhills in its heyday. If it's your first time in Singapore, I highly recommend shopping in Bugis whether you plan to shop for yourself or for pasalubong.

We stayed in Park View Hotel along Beach Road, an affordable hotel that serves a simple buffet breakfast and is mostly staffed by Filipinos. This is a mere 2-3 blocks away from Bugis, the perfect stroll to get the adrenaline going after a hearty breakfast. It is also near the bus and train station, very convenient if you'll be frequently commuting to Sentosa for the duration of your stay.

oh hai good morning! we just woke up!

Now because we were hard-pressed for time I was only able to go around the area for about 2 1/2 hours and then headed off to Chinatown and Orchard Road. Anyhoo, you should definitely go around Bugis and check out the clothes, shoes and accessories as they have quite an assortment.

If you're into dainty lace dresses and Korean-inspired clothing, do visit Isabelle's Closet. The owner, Isabelle (above), is so nice and charming and personally attends to her customers. Please note that sellers in Bugis do not allow fitting of clothes, but you can fit shoes and try on accessories though.

These are some of the items I came home with (from different sellers):

chambray dress SGD 20 + shoes SGD 12
faux pearl neckpiece - SGD 19
I also purchased goodies for the inaanaks, like Angry Birds backpacks and shirts, plus Singapore key chains and can openers for relatives.

After shopping you can head on to Bugis Junction, a mall sprawled with other good stores such as Cotton On, Guardian, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins plus various kiosks that sell bags and other novelty items.

And please, I implore you, do check out Twelve Cupcakes. They're pretty new but their cupcakes are so good!

Bugis Junction has a decent food court, too, if you don't want to spend too much on food. This is where we met up with friends we haven't seen in months.

Writing this post just makes me want to go back to Singapore stat! Ever since I first set foot here, it has then occupied a special place in my heart. I don't know why, but Singapore just makes me feel really giddy. It's sort of like my escape, like my secret garden.

Have you guys been to Bugis? What did you buy? :)

  5. Hi Kira, were you able to visit Haji Lane?
The area around Arab Street is quite a popular tourist spot. There's a lot of interesting artsy fartsy cafes and shops. :)
