The Avon Plant Tour: Where the Magic Begins

We know how powerful a tube of lipstick is. And I admit, when I'm in the dumps or just itching to change my look I turn to lipstick as my saving grace. What's not to like about lipstick? It's cheap, readily available, comes in pretty casings and it promises you the sun, the moon, the stars -- or sometimes even just the lingering look of a stranger is enough to validate our lipstick splurges. Hay naku, lipsticks are every girl's waterloo.

My first tinted lip balm (which I considered a lipstick back then) was from Avon. I was only 10 and my Tita was an Avon Lady. And that started my lifelong affair with the brand :)

So when I was invited to Avon's plant tour a few weeks ago, I wanted to scream "YES" at the top of my lungs! I can finally see, with my very eyes, how the eponymous Avon lipsticks are made plus know more about their best-selling Skin So Soft lotions. So, here's a quick tour of the huge Avon plant located in Calamba, Laguna.

Impressively, Avon has been beautifying and helping women achieve their full potential for 125 years! That is quite a feat! And it's no wonder that Avon is THE number 1 company for women.

Trivia: Did you know that Avon acquired BeautyFont, Inc. (ask your Moms about this famous brand) back in the day and APMI (Avon Products Manufacturing Inc.) is their production center. Most of the ingredients are imported BUT the products are manufactured in the Phils. and then exported to other countries.

Shopping at Bugis Street & Bugis Junction, Singapore

Prior to jetting off to Singapore, we made sure that we'd be staying in a hotel that was walking distance from the famed shopping destination Bugis Street and Bugis Junction. Bugis is popular for scoring cheap finds, sort of like Greenhills in its heyday. If it's your first time in Singapore, I highly recommend shopping in Bugis whether you plan to shop for yourself or for pasalubong.

We stayed in Park View Hotel along Beach Road, an affordable hotel that serves a simple buffet breakfast and is mostly staffed by Filipinos. This is a mere 2-3 blocks away from Bugis, the perfect stroll to get the adrenaline going after a hearty breakfast. It is also near the bus and train station, very convenient if you'll be frequently commuting to Sentosa for the duration of your stay.

oh hai good morning! we just woke up!

I am a Certified Crunch Connoisseur!

A few weeks ago I blogged about our shoot with Niccolo Cosme and today was THE unveiling of the Nestle Crunch Ice Cream Funtacular photos -- eep! I was half-scared and half-in denial as I wasn't sure how the photos would turn out, it being my first shoot and all.

Anyhoo, the event was held at Cravings in Shangri-la Mall and I was lucky enough to be seated beside these two lovely bloggers, Sarah and Tin. And then after a quick lunch *gasp* the unveiling began!

A total of 23 bloggers! Wow!
So glad the photos of all the bloggers turned out great! Yaaay! I can finally breathe a sigh of relief, haha. More photos from the launch today:

Eat Happy at Candylicious!

Owkay, it's obvious that the most important highlight of my Singapore trip was the dreaded (yet totally memorable) "Revenge of the Mummy" ride. But ooh, lemme tell ya that we spent a good two hours walking inside Candylicious, too, my favorite candy shop to date. Love candy? Then this place is heaven for you!

Candylicious is Asia's largest candy store and offers almost 5,000 kinds of candies and chocolates. Wow! We visited their newest store in Resorts Word Singapore which boasts of 3 humongous lollipop trees. I swear, I felt so Willy Wonka that day! I really can't explain any more, so here are photos to prove how awesome this place is:

I was skipping on the way to the store....quite literally, I might add!

There's a Baby in the House!

We have a cutie little visitor in the house, Baby Mika. This the first time in a long, long time that a baby graced our humble abode. And I always said I don't want kids (not right now anyway), but *sigh* I couldn't help but gush over this cutie pie.

What's the perfect gift for an expectant or new mom? I've got a tip for you -- Kindercare products!

What is Kindercare? (lifted from press release)
Kindercare is the only mass-market local brand focused purely on performance and function, offering only 100% BPA-free bottles nnd 100% liquid silicone nipples.

Why go BPA-free?

Kindercare bottles are approximately Php 89.90 - Php 94.90 each
BPA (Bisphenol A) is a chemical compound used to create many types of plastic and is prevalent in most baby bottles. What consumers don't know is that BPA has properties that mimic estrogen in the human bodies which may lead to health issues. Exposure to BPA may affect brain, behavior and prostrate gland development. It's been studied that people may be more sensitive to BPA's effects during their infancy and early childhood. In line with this, Kindercare now only offers 100% BPA-free bottles to ensure that your little one only gets the best care possible.

Solo x Pupung Campaign: Brings back my childhood memories

Growing up, I remember having breakfast reading the Pupung cartoons on Manila Bulletin everyday, this was my no-fail ritual before heading off to school. My Mom, the thoughtful and kind person that she is, made sure that everything was ready before I plopped myself on that breakfast chair. Come college, I even ate in the Pupung restaurant along Vito Cruz and my fave dish was their boneless bangus.

I haven't read any Pupung cartoons in the last decade, for one reason or another, I almost totally forgot about them! So imagine how thrilled I was when I found out that Solo has now collaborated with illustrator Tonton Young and created a Pupung clothing line! Wow!

Who is Pupung? (press release)

Pupung was created in 1983 by Tonton Young and he was real. The real-life Pupung is Tonton’s 6-year old nephew, Jeff Young with a nickname Pupung. He chose the name Pupung for his comic strip title because it sounds cartoon.  Pupung dad’s was created after his likeness in basketball. Just like Daddy, Tonton is a big basketball fan and was a self-confessed basketball buff during his teen years.

Ah, how good it feels! The hand of an old friend.

Top: Dorothy Perkins | Aztec Pants: SM Dept. Store | Sandals: Payless Shoesource
One of my favorite photos with my college friend, Christine, as we walk along Singapore's Helix Bridge. Christine has been working here for the last 4 years and I only get to see her during the holidays. I severely miss Singapore and don't mind working here for the next few years or so. Pray that I get to tick this off my bucket list ;)

My Travel-Worthy Makeup Must-Haves: VMV + Mosbeau + Shu Uemura

Okay guys, I am back! But be prepared for a barrage of Singapore photos in the next few weeks as I've been sifting through hundreds since this morning and well, I kinda gave up halfway. Anyway, if you must know it was terribly hot in Singapore and spending a minimum of 8 hours everyday under the blistering sun, well, my concern was still to look *pretty* decent in photos (superficial ba? Haha).

So here's my dream team, so to speak. I've been using these everyday and they never failed me! I like to pack light, too, which is why I go for multi-functional and long-lasting products :)

My ultimate tag team:

The Mosbeau All in One Facial Cream (thank you PMP!) is my favorite base-slash-night cream and overall moisturizer. It in a gel form, is non-greasy and non-oily and feels incredibly light. It's the perfect base for oily-skinned chicas who need to moisturize before applying foundation.

I got the VMV Skin Savvy in N1 recently (thank you VMV!) and I've been using it religiously. The N1 shade complements my skin tone (I used to be NC25 but I am sorta "sunkissed" now), think of it as a tinted Armada 60. It's creamy yet dries matte and offers buildable medium coverage. You have to work fast when spreading this as it refuses to budge once its dry. It also has a bit of drag, which is why it is necessary to moisturize beforehand.

The VMV Skin Savvy boasts of SPF 60, it can cover minor blemishes, redness, pores and also evens out the skin tone. It stays put even after sweating, awesome huh?

G-Star Raw Grand Launch

I live and breathe in jeans. I had a dress phase way back, but now I'm back to wearing jeans because it's more convenient and practical. Plus, there are so many ways to dress them up -- from wearing funky accessories to sky high heels, you can also choose from the regular plain jeans to those printed and neon ones. Limitless combinations, I tell ya.

A few weeks ago I was invited to the grand launch of luxury brand, G-Star Raw. Read on to know more about this global brand.

Amsterdam, May 2012, G-Star is luxury street wear made by denim specialists. A preference for raw materials, deep passion for denim and architectural perspective on tailoring are one of the main characteristics of the brand. Raw, pure and functional, both the collection and the G-Star Stores perfectly reflect these values which also seem to be rubbing off on a vastly increasing base of denim addicts worldwide
From its conception in 1989, G-Star has been known for its innovative and cutting edge style in the world of denim. Pushing the boundaries of the denim material, continuous experimentation and product development have led to a strong following worldwide.
G-Star (formerly Gap Star) is known primarily for creating raw, untreated, unwashed denim. The company has been around since 1989 but their signature raw denim was only unleashed in 1996 when head designer, Pierre Morisset, saw a man getting off his motorcycle drenched from riding in the rain. The man's jeans clung to his legs forming interesting shapes and folds around the knees from where the rider had his legs bent while on the bike. The designer saw this scene and decided that this was to be his art inspired by the everyday (source).

Photo Story: I was hugged by Niccolo Cosme!

I just got home from a fun shoot with a few bloggers. It was my first and I'm not so confident that I did a good job with it *facepalm* I really can't model or pose for the life of me, so if you guys see the end result, please don't mock me. Haha.

Anyway, I was told that the awesome (and too cute) Niccolo Cosme would be shooting us, pressure right? But he's so nice and encouraging that well, okay, I'd love to do another shoot with him in the future. Tee-hee.

So here's what went down one rainy Saturday afternoon:

OOTD: Casual Wednesdays

If ever you bump into me in Makati during weekdays, I am usually simply dressed in comfy jeans and flats. I srsrly live in my jeans, and good jeans are a must for commuters. Although I do inject a few skirts and dresses once in a while, jeans for me are more practical.

So this is what I wore to work today wearing the oh-so-comfy Boyfriend Jeans of Bench. Who says Boyfriend Jeans have to be look sloppy and unkempt? If they fit well, they can look fab, too! Just add a few pieces like a cool chunky necklace and you're good to go!
