My Lilliputian feet + a Ferretti giveaway - CLOSED

I could very well be the epitome of petite – 5’4”, 100 lbs, tiny frame, the works. But what people don’t know is that’s not the end of it. I, my friends, also have tiny feet.

Back in college, a lot of people thought my teeny tiny feet were cute, while others thought it was just weird. I didn’t really think much of it (after all, I do come from a family with small feet), twas only til I needed to buy high-heeled or trendy shoes for special events that I noticed there weren’t a lot of brands catering to my size.

I could even get away with a size 5 back then, but in recent years it’s like the whole world grew except my footsies as I have now been demoted to a size 4! My favorite UK brand just stopped carrying my size and I was distraught. I am now a minority. Oh what’s a girl to do, shop in the kids section? Le sigh.

Announcement: The New Avon Naturals

Happy Monday!

While everyone else is rushing to get to their offices on time, I'm grateful that I'm allowed to work from home today and work on so many blog backlogs. Anyway, let's start the week with a skip in your step and a refreshing youthful glow with the new Avon Naturals. These are packed with good-for-you ingredients inspired by nature and are said to be mild, gentle, and suitable for everyday use. So let's get started, shall we?

Avon Naturals Tea Tree Oil and Green Tea Skin Care helps take care of oily skin by gently deep cleaning and removing excess oil, dirt and impurities. It contains Vitamin C & E which work deeply into the pores to provide oil control and leave your skin shine free all day long.

The set includes:

Avon NaturalsTea Tree Oil & Green Tea Purifying Mask - Php 169.00
Avon NaturalsTea Tree Oil & Green Tea Purifying Toner - Php 129.00
Avon NaturalsTea Tree Oil & Green Tea  Purifying Cleanser - Php 139.00

Leyende La Dolce Muscovado Sugar Exfoliant

Exfoliation is my passion. I love, love to exfoliate in the shower. I don't do it everyday though, but I do take the time to scrub and massage each and every bit of my face and body then smother myself with moisturizer afterwards.

For the longest time I've been such a fan of St. Ives Microdermabrasion due to its small and gentle scrubs, but I will admit that I was giddy when I first heard of Leyende's all natural version -- the La Dolce Muscovado Sugar Exfoliant with Natural Calamansi Extract.

The 411 on Muscovado

Muscovado sugar is a type of unrefined sugar taken from sugarcane juice. It is richer than brown or white sugars as it contains essential minerals such as phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. It's been said that Miss Universe 1968 Martha Vasconcellos from Brazil attributes her glowing skin to a weekly facial scrub regimen of muscovado sugar soaked in sweet almond oil. Hmm..now who wouldn't want glowing and healthy skin right?

At Leyende, we took this homemade beauty recipe idea and added a Filipino touch: using natural calamansi extract, reminiscent of the time when Filipino women rubbed halves of calamansi on brown spots to brighten and even out the complexion. The result is a simple, easy-to-use, but effective facial exfoliant that’s milder than existing salt-based or polyethylene-based facial scrubs.
Introductory price: Php 250

I got a jar compliments of Leyende's Marketing Manager, Claud Santos (she also gave me a very ingenious box to boot!) I am truly proud of Leyende as they are the only local organic brand in the Philippines whose products are 100% ECOCERT.

The new La Boheme Collection features a new take on MAKE UP FOR EVER's Rouge Artist Natural in Folk (Php 1,280) which comes in a warm red coral shade, perfect for those who want to rock this year's pantone but are not quite ready to go full-on tangerine tango :)

The packaging is the first thing one would notice as it features playful imprints of leaves inside the tube and the MAKE UP FOR EVER logo on the cap. The Rogue Artist itself comes in a sheer, melt-away formula that will undoubtedly complement various skin tones. A sample was provided for me so I could roadtest this pretty little thing.

Our Nail Experience at B.A.R. - updated

*added the reply from B.A.R. owner below

Last Saturday, my sister and I delivered new EarthlyDelights accessories to the Bedazzle store in University Mall, Taft. We were both in dire need of a manicure and pedicure (as we were way excited for the Katy Perry concert the next day) that we decided to try out the B.A.R. aka Beauty and Rejuvenation salon/spa located just adjacent to the store.

It was my first time and my sister's second time to visit. B.A.R. The place was empty and quiet on a weekend plus the interiors we beckoning, so we figured we could relax, hang out and have our nails done while we plan out our Sunday itinerary.

The set up was interesting, and well, a bit weird for me. But it made sense, cos the sinks on the floor made it easy for the staff to the rinse the feet of clients and perform foot spas.

Nix dry cuticles with MJ's Herbals Calendula Salve

I work with my hands so much that every itty bitty "wrong" thing about them bugs me. All I can think about now are my ragged and dry cuticles. Mind you, I moisturize my hands after every wash, but there are still some things that can't be helped, like horrendous manicures and such.

Presenting Exhibit A - I am quite embarrassed to show how my cuticles look like now, and this is even with regular use of the Leyende Mother Butter. So sad right? Oh what to do, what to do....

And then it hit me! One of our friends, Jenny of ARC PR, handed me a bottle of MJ's Herbals Calendula Salve last month. I figured since I use it for dry spots and the soles of my feet, I'm pretty sure it'll work as a cuticle oil/salve as well.

Snoe Beauty is now open in Trinoma!

The newest player in the beauty industry is local brand Snoe Beauty. Its mantra "Be the fairest of them all" is backed up by their extensive lineup of whitening/lightening products. The brand also offers cosmetics (blushes, BB cream), I am however, more interested in their skin care line. I've been using Emu.Tox for weeks now, and a review on this blog is due soon.

Snoe Beauty does not claim to be 100% organic or natural, but some of their products are spiked with natural ingredients.

In the meantime, here are some photos of their newest kiosk in Landmark, Trinoma. I am really loving the fact that a lot of cult-favorites (Clinique, Shu, MAC) as well as up and coming brands are invading the North. Finally, I don't have to travel all the way to Makati to get my kikay fix!

The Pinkbox Party

Who hasn't heard or swooned over Pinkbox? I mean, their kiosks are all around the metro and their goodies are just so eye-poppingly cute! From being known as a brand that offers cutesy stuff for kids (and the kids at heart, ehem!), Pinkbox now offers a lot of trendy and unique pieces perfect for the young modern moms and hardworking girls like us who just need their daily fix of prettiness.

At the latest Pinkbox media launch, some of the top beauty and fashion bloggers were invited to witness the brand's newest collection. The venue was perfect as Sweet Bella Cafe in BGC offered nothing but delectable sweets and mouthwatering pica-pica. Yes, I fell in love with the Salty Caramel Macaron (salivating right now!) and tried to steal everyone else's dessert. Ahh..wish I bought more stuff to munch on at home.

Anyway, as expected I was the early bird (read: 2 hours early!) because my previous engagement finished waay ahead of time. So, lemme tell you that I helped Liz pump air into the balloons. Ha!

My Best Beauty Picks of 2011

I was able to try a lot of really impressive skin care products last year, but these are my favorites so far that work tremendously well with my sensitive skin. So, let me present my humble list of favorite products that I've discovered in 2011 and am still using today:

Pure Beauty Perfect Cleansing Oil - Php 190++

Who knew that this uber affordable product from Watsons can rival the cleansing oils of more expensive brands? This seemingly unassuming product can dissolve waterproof makeup and rid my face of impurities. It truly is a cleansing oil because it emusifies and easily washes off (some natural/organic "cleansing oils" don't emulsify and are best called tissue-off cleansers). I suggest following this with your favorite facial wash/cleanser for optimum results.

Clinique Derma White Bright-C Liquid Makeup SPF 38 PA+++ - Php 1,950

Possibly the most hardworking liquid foundation (in terms of sun protection), this product is so lightweight and  leaves a very natural, skin-friendly finish. I purchased my teeny bottle in Feb 2011 and it's still halfway full, talk about economical.

Rave: Jane Iredale Dream Tint in Light

I love receiving pint sizes of high end brands because it gives me a chance to roadtest it before committing to an expensive full-sized product. One of the products that I can't seem to stop using nowadays is the Jane Iredale Dream Tint. I initially got a teeny tube from the Jane Iredale blogger event last year and haven't really thought of using it until about 2 months later. Around Christmas time, I decided it was time to finally get a full-sized tube despite its relatively high price. Yes, I love it that much.

This super-absorbent product not only hydrates, but prevents water loss, calms inflammation and improves the skin's elasticity. Plus, Dream Tint creates a soft-focus effect that minimizes the look of large pores and fine lines. Unique algae extracts moisturize and soothe, while titanium dioxide provides SPF 15 with UVA protection.
Active Ingredient: Titanium Dioxide 4.5%.
Ingredients: Water/Eau/Aqua, Algae Extract, Elder Flower Extract, Dimethicone, Jojoba Esters, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Stearate, Sunflower Seed Oil, Glycerin, Radish Root Extract, Boron Nitride, Shea Butter, Jojoba Seed Oil, Cetearyl Candelillate, White Tea Leaf Extract, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Lavender Oil, Pomegranate Extract, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate. May Contain: Iron Oxides, Mica, Manganese Violet, Chromium Oxide Greens.
Price: Php 1,890

Boracay-holics can now satiate their cravings for Aria's famous woodfire oven-baked pizza (swear, this itty bitty fact makes all the difference!) because Aria Cucina Italiana is now opening in Manila!

Review: Venus & Mars Lip Butter Tints

I have a soft spot for tinted lip balms. I distinctly remember holding off on the lipsticks and just applying tinted balms til I was in college. I liked how easy it was to apply without even a need for a mirror. So fool-proof, right? Today's lip tints are thankfully more skin-friendly and organic, I'm glad that they even have a better selection of colors. Check out these Lip Butter Tints from Venus & Mars which the lovely owners, Jamie and Justin, sent over during the holiday season.

Break free from chemicals! Give your lips the authentic, lavish pampering it has always wanted. Made out of the finest essential oils, lips will surely be younger-looking in no time. There’s nothing more it could ever ask. Not at all heavy on the lips!
Ingredients: EMU Oil, Castor Bean Oil, Almond Oil, Carnauba Wax, Mica, Peppermint, Beeswax, Vitamin E Oil (now FORTIFIED with SPF15)

How to care for permed hair

I've been enjoying my permed hair, thankyouverymuch. However, since my hair is uber sensitized from coloring and perming, my stylist says I should devote more attention and use products that not only condition but moisturize my dry ends.

I was advised to use a hair masque everyday in place of my regular conditioner (yep, he figured it was that dry). I didn't really mind, since I had lots of stuff to use at home anyway. So lemme share with you all what I use to care for my dry, chemically-treated hair.

Shampoo & Conditioners

No that is not a typo, I use only 1 shampoo and alternate two conditioners. These are my tried and tested favorites, they may cost more than your store-bought brands but I swear, they do the job pretty darn good.

Giveaway alert: Say hello to soft, smooth skin with Nanny Rose!

After all the holiday stress, it's time to pamper ourselves once again so we can confidently brave what 2012 has to offer. Personally, I think I've outdone myself this time with the Christmas planning -- we were literally out of the house almost everyday trying to maximize the two-week Christmas vacation of my favorite nephews.

All I got at the end of their stay was a peck on the cheek, a tight hug and whisper in my ear, "We had SO much fun, Ninang! We'd love to come back soon!" Ahhh, music to my ears! My work now is done and I can't stop grinning from ear to ear. I will miss the little rascals.

So anyway, enough reminiscing. Let's all kick start the new year with an exciting giveaway. Thanks to Mandy of ARD Organics, one lucky winner will get a chance to win this pretty cool package:
