Kris Kringle (also entitled: I think my Mommy is a serial killer)

We all had our Kris Kringle last week before the most awaited Christmas break. Since there were technically only two of us who came from corporate offices with prior Kris Kringle experiences, we had to devise a plan and create mechanics for our first ever company Kris Kringle. Thank you Krissy and Marco for helping out :)

The gist is: there were 3 gift themes in total (one per week) with a budget of Php 50/gift then a major gift by the 4th week with a minimum budget of Php 500. The big reveal was to happen on the last working day before Christmas. To spice things up, there will be corresponding consequences and rewards if you incorrectly or correctly guess who your "Mommy" is.

Most of our co-workers felt that the initial mechanics were "far too complicated", in the end everyone just decided not to follow the rules. Heh.

Anyway, for the past 2 weeks til the last day of work I've been complaining incessantly because although I've been very responsible with giving my weekly gifts to my "Baby", my "Mommy" was so kuripot and only put 1 gift for me in the designated Kris Kringle box (which was stationed in my cubicle, FYI). So by the last day I was really, really whining out loud to the point that my "Mommy" handed me my 3 remaining gifts and said: "Okay I'm your Mommy, now open the damn gifts!" Haha, yay. My wish was granted.

I don't have proof yet...but I think my "Mommy" is a serial killer. Must.not.open.

Online Christmas shopping at AVA.ph

Online shopping has really played a huge part in accomplishing my Christmas shopping this year. One of the sites I regularly go to is AVA.ph. They have quite an assortment of impressive gifts (for your loved ones or for yourself) that you have to practice a little bit of restraint when "window" shopping. If I had my way I'd splurge on the Papaya wallets and bags, but I decided to save my money and buy only necessary gifts.

These came in the mail a few days after purchase. Orders are thoughtfully wrapped in sturdy AVA boxes, and then wrapped again in another brown box. The AVA team really makes sure that your purchases are secure and will survive the long journey to your doorstep and arrive in pristine condition.

What's inside my Glamourbox Holiday Glow box

When I was a child, one of the most memorable things about Christmas was travelling to the province for vacation, playing with my cousins and of course, unboxing my gifts on Christmas morning -- I always try to be awake by 4A.M. so that I'll be the first to rummage through the gifts under the tree! So much determination back then when I was young, haha. To this day, I still feel the same joy whenever I get home and discover that I my orders have arrived or I've received a special gift from well-meaning PR agencies and companies.

Yesterday my December Glamourbox arrived and I was giddy with delight! Oooh, what does Glamourbox have in store for me today, I thought to myself. Here's a peek at Glamourbox's December box filled to the brim with prettifying skin care products, fragrances, plus special discount coupons to some of our country's most trusted brands.

Rose Pink Sneakers

Everyone was so focused on doomsday or the end of the world, but I wasn't bothered. Not.one.bit. I was so looking forward to Christmas vacation and eating all the Christmas ham at home (haha). I was also excited to hand everyone their presents, my gifts to everyone this year was well thought out and I did spend more money for the parentals. All in all, I am confident in my gift choices.

For the last day of work (for this week anyway), I veered towards the casual. Alex liked my pants a whole lot and described it as "so un-Kira." I think that would be a good thing, yes? After all, everyone's used to seeing me in girly and dainty clothes, a little ruggedness wouldn't hurt. But yeah, I had to squeeze in something pink in my ensemble.

A little story on my H&M sneakers: I have long been searching for a pair of dainty sneakers and I got these in Hong Kong. It's a little big but I love the rosy pink hue. FYI: I only own one pair of sneaks, haha.

Cardigan: bazaar | White sleeveless top: Plains & Prints | Boyfriend jeans: Cotton On
Watercolor print bag: Ferretti
Rose pink sneakers: H&M
Tassel necklace: Chocolate Clohing Co. | Skull Bracelet: Gift from Anne (Kris Kringle)
A Kris Kringle post coming up next --- check out what went down at our company's first Kris Kringle ever! A lot of people didn't follow the rules and it was so funny!

The New Limited Edition Ptisenbon Tartine et Choclat

My adoration for this sunny lemon balm scent started in March with my first bottle. One whiff and I was hooked, the mild scent was perfect for me and our warm (nay, hot!) weather. The refreshing scent is great on really hot, humid and sticky days when heavy perfumes seem so inappropriate.

So, armed with my Christmas pay I went to the mall and purchased another bottle for only Php 2,400 (regularly priced at Php 3,200). To my delight, Givenchy has added more cuteness to the packaging -- a house solely to house the Ptisenbon Tartine et Choclat (pun intended). Ooooooh!

Can you spot it?

The Ink Squad: Graphic Tees by YOU!

I first encountered The Ink Squad back in 2005 during one of my bazaars at Rockwell, and I found the team (Trina and Ramon) to be quite a friendly bunch. I loved their quirky designs!

The Ink Squad is a local creative community that believes in a design democracy meaning YOU submit shirt designs, YOU choose what you like, YOU wear shirts you like. It's pretty straightforward! And get this: if someone else buys a shirt with your print on it, you get 5% royalty!

Ink Squad has been dormant for a while and I'm happy to report that they are back! Oh how I missed Galgathor! I was given the chance to score my own limited edition tee, and it finally arrived last week.

Digiperm Partie Deux at Beauty Brick

Last November 16, I finally chopped off my long hair and had a second digiperm at Beauty Brick. For a rundown of my first digiperm hair story, please click here. Having it done at Beauty Brick was a no-brainer: they were the only salon able to successfully perm my hair plus the perm lasted quite a long time (almost a year) so in my opinion, it's really sulit.

If you're a first-timer, I would suggest avoiding the holidays at Beauty Brick. The main difference between last year and this year's salon visit? The place wasn't packed! Hallelujah! I had mine December of 2012 and the place was teeming with people, so much so that it can get stressful for those who are scared of crowded places.

Eye of Horus Natural Mascara

I've always been skeptical of natural cosmetics. I mean, without preservatives or thickeners, how can one expect them to perform as well as their department store counterparts? I've tried foundations made with natural or organic ingredients and they've disappointed me in more ways than one. But that doesn't mean I won't stop looking...I think the perfect natural makeup brand is still out there (Korres, when are you coming to the Philippines?)

Anyway, one of the products I received from the Glamourbox November box was the Eye of Horus Natural Macara which I've honestly never heard of before. Here's the description as lifted from the Glamourbox site:

If you’re after perfect natural mascara that won’t run, smudge or clump, Eye of Horus natural mascara is exactly what you are looking for. Formulated in the style of the ancient Egyptians, Eye of Horus mascara uses natural, non-irritating ingredients. Ideal for sensitive eyes and Eye of Horus Mascara strengthens and lengthens for ultimate Goddess lashes.
Being formulated with nourishing waxes, removal is easy with a cloth warmed with water as the heat melts the waxes, cleaning lashes, making it gentle on the eyes.
Ingredients: Carnauba wax, Beeswax, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, Candelilla Wax, Stearic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Triethanolamine, Polyvinylalcohol crosspolymer, Iron Oxide (black), Water. Paraben Free

VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum

I always tell people that I grew up using VMV and this is more proof that I've seen the brand "evolve" and change packaging various times, not to mention the numerous price increments over the last decades (from Php 100+ for a lipstick back in the '90s to Php 1,050 today). Oh how time flies, 2012 is almost over.

Anyway, my favorite eye treatment of the moment is the VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Eye Serum (Php 1,880) which I got as a gift from the brand last year. The photo above shows how it used to look like and was formerly labelled as "Glykeros Eye and Lip Lift Contour Serum". I've long been using the old version (in silver tin pump), but I later moved on to other eye creams that needed to be reviewed and sort of forgot about VMV.

Katsu Cravings: Visiting Yabu in Robinsons Magnolia

When was the last time I ate in Yabu? I asked myself one sunny morning. It's been 3 months, methinks. Time for another dose of Katsu.

And so a craving has been born. We scheduled a visit to this famous Katsu place at their new branch in Robinsons Magnolia. A lot of people have been raving about it (the mall and the Katsu) that we were more than excited to take a drive on a lazy Monday afternoon.

Yabu was located on the lower ground floor where the food court is. Odd right? But at least the restaurant is huge:

Nothing can be truer than fairy wisdom. It is as true as sunbeams.

I've long been searching for the perfect maxi skirt (I say perfect a lot, don't I?). It took me a while but I finally found it in the prettiest old rose shade...and in Hong Kong no less! I had to haggle hard to get it, so much so that the seller felt so exasperated and finally accepted my offer and ended with a, "You are Filipino, yes?"

Yup, Filipinos know how to drive a hard bargain.

I wore this to the office last week and everyone said I looked like a fairy. One of our *few* male employees quipped, "FYI I am straight, but I really like your skirt." The image above is am "ambush" photo taken by our graphic artist, Farhannah, in the conference room.

A day with my Birthday Giveaway winner

I'm not as outgoing as other bloggers, but I do like meeting my readers once in a while. Last month I spent a day with the lovely Eunice Alcala who won my birthday giveaway. We decided to meet in The Appraisery (which is my favorite hangout every weekend) for their delish coffee and yummy sandwiches.

The Neutrogena Philippines store is now OPEN!

Happy weekend folks! For those of you who are on a staycation (Kira raises hand!), take this time to relax, catch up on sleep, play with your dog and read a good book. And for the shopaholics, it's also the best time to get some shopping done as well! Hate crowded malls and traffic? Then shopping online is the answer to your problems!

Neutrogena finally jumped on the bandwagon and launched their online store which is accessible via their Facebook page. Last week, we were invited to an intimate dinner in M Cafe to experience the ease of shopping online for our favorite Neutrogena products.

I was part of fashion history!: The New Glorietta Vibe Launch

Two weeks ago Liz sent me an email asking if I would be interested to join Ayala x AVA's attempt to break the record of having 2,500 models walk the runway for the launch of Glorietta's new wing. I hesitated and declined, my reason being that runways aren't my thing (I am quite shy and self-conscious beyond belief) and if I trip, it would be recorded in history for all the world to see.

Liz persisted. She texted and messaged me on Facebook every.single.day. Really, really. A week before November 29th, Liz's persistence paid off as I finally said yes on one condition: that someone had to apply makeup on me because for the love of God, I can only apply foundation, lipstick and eyebrow pencil. Thankfully, Mira Villanueva of Estee Lauder agreed to do makeup for the bloggers. Whew, what a lifesaver.

Now, my problem was the dress. We were required to be in all black, and I didn't want to look like a plain Jane so I scoured Greenhills and found this lovely black A-line (perfect!) dress with a sheer panelled skirt (more on this later). Since Ferretti was sponsoring the shoes, it was great that I was also able to choose the wedge that I wanted. So everything was basically falling into place.

Photo Story: Quick Dinner at Cafe Mediterranean

Before watching "Breaking Dawn" (thanks Paul for the free tickets!) in SM Mall of Asia, my sister and I decided to have dinner in Cafe Mediterranean. I've blogged about it before (check this link) declaring that I am so in love with their garlic sauce.

On this particular day, however, they ran out of beef kebabs (sob!) and the waitstaff suggested trying their Beef Shawarma Rice saying that the taste is very similar to my beloved Beef Kebab Rice (and even Php 100 cheaper!). She even offered to include the same veggies but I declined. I was so okay with trying this dish on its own.

The dishes we happily devoured:

Hummus
Pita Bread

A peek inside my Glamourbox

I wasn't able to attend the official Glamourbox luncheon with fellow beauty bloggers due to a change in work sked that day, but I am glad that the team decided to send my premier box to the office. Thank you so much guys :)

After almost 2 months of waiting, it's finally time to unveil my Glamourbox! Oooh...let's take a peek, shall we?

Sample Room: Try Before You Buy!

For someone like me who has sensitive skin and who's pretty loyal to skin care products that work, product samples do have a *sneaky* way of creeping into my skin care routine.

Wouldn't it be great if we could sample products for free? I admit, I've purchased one product too many relying mostly on blogs and online reviews, only to experience nasty allergic reactions and breakouts. At the end of the day I'm stuck with an expensive full-sized bottle I want to dispose of and I'm left thinking of ways to get my money back! I'm sure, it has happened to all of us! How frustrating!

Sample Room, the first and only sampling site to hit Manila, aims to solve all these problems by offering samples we can patch-test and road-test for FREE!

Christmas Cards from the Association of Mouth & Foot Painting Artists, Inc.

My Christmas stash has arrived! Even in this digital age, my Mom still does not have Facebook and prefers to send Christmas greetings to our relatives abroad via cards. For the past 2 years, she's been purchasing cards, calendars and gift tags from the AMFPA or Association of Mouth & Foot Painting Artists, Inc.

The AMFPA is a group of handicapped men and women, who either through illness, accidents, or congenital disability have no use for their hands. They paint using their mouth or feet. Let me show you some of the stuff we received in the mail:

Happy Thanksgiving!

2012 has certainly been a year of huge changes. I shan't go into the nitty gritty but overall, I have a lot of things to be thankful for.

I am thankful that at the end of the day...

...I have a roof over my head...

From Curly to Wavy: My Digiperm Hair Story

When I bit the bullet last year and had my hair digipermed, I was so happy with the results that I don't want to go back to having straight hair EVER again. Here's a quick recap, see how my perm has unravelled over the course of 11 months:

my peg in December 2011: Maggie Gyllenhaal curls
Since this was my first perm ever, I was still learning the ropes on how to properly style it. I used mousse at first which left my hair crunchy (I didn't know any better then, haha). After 10 days the curls started to slowly unravel -- goodbye Goldilocks curls and hello wavy, sexy hair:

Bargain Shopping in Hong Kong

A month after my Hong Kong trip, I still can't stop thinking about where to go next. Ahh....travelling is such an adventure, everyone should experience it at least once a year. We've got 4 destinations plotted for 2013 and hopefully I can squeeze in a quick trip to Singapore (just because I love it there!) and eat kaya toast.

Anyway, the most memorable thing about Hong Kong for me was shopping for bargains along the famous Nathan Road (where I bought my ankle boots), Jordan Street and in CityGate Outlets. Oops, I am getting ahead of myself. Here are some photos of where we shopped last October:

Mochiko is now in Glorietta and SM North Edsa!

Last year I blogged about my favorite mochi dessert of all time which I found while nonchalantly looking for stuff to buy in Mercato Centrale. I haven't had the time to go visit Mercato again, and I totally forgot about Mochiko until I got a craving recently (more specifically, after I tried Ma Maison's Green Tea Mochi).

notice my no-kilay look back in 2011
After a quick web search, I discovered that I didn't have to travel to The Fort to get my fix as they conveniently set up shop in Glorietta (and SM North Edsa, yippee!) already. That same day, I rushed to Glorietta immediately after work, I couldn't wait to dig my teeth into their creamy caramel ice cream and munch on their chewy mochi.

Voted by Yummy Magazine as one of the "50 Best Desserts of 2012", I'm happy that Mochiko is finally available for everyone to try! This is their stall in Food Choices, Glorietta 4:

Kalye Juan by City Delivery

I was stuck at home during last week's very long weekend. Don't get me wrong, I actually did enjoy sleeping long hours, catching up on blog backlogs and just being a couch potato watching all the scary movies on cable. Long weekends are also the perfect time to bond with the family and pets, and if you read my previous entries, you know that I took Pnut out for Halloween and he truly enjoyed it.

Another way to bond with family and loved ones is over food, and this time we were invited to try out City Delivery. City Delivery is a food delivery service that caters to mid-range and upscale restaurants within the metro. I've heard of it before but never got around to actually ordering anything. This time was as good a time as any.

We were craving for Pinoy food so we decided to order from Kalye Juan. After registering on http://www.citydelivery.ph/, we submitted our orders and scheduled the delivery for November 5 (Monday), 8pm. The good thing about City Delivery's service is that you can order days in advance, so convenient for parties, business meetings, etc.!

On the day itself, we felt so hungry waiting for our food to arrive (oh 8pm, please come faster!). Then before we knew it, we heard a familiar buzzer and looked out the window -- our City Delivery guy has arrived! And 30 minutes early, too! Hooray!

Ear Candy: My Purple Accutone Earphones

I've learned that I am most productive while listening to music. I prefer zoning out at work and listening to my playlists while doing reports or typing away whatever task has been given to me. One of my most recent finds is the Accutone Aquarius Purple In-Ear Headset (Php 1,800) given to me for review by AVA Fashion.

Accutone is a brand known for producing professional headsets for call centers and they recently came out with these elegant jelly-colored earphones. Bored with basic black and white earphones? Then these pretty colored ones may just be the perfect one for you!

Review: Human Nature Nourishing Facial Wash

I prefer toting facial washes in bottles or tubes when travelling because soaps can be cumbersome to pack. I purchased the Human Nature Nourishing Facial Wash with Tomato Extract last month before my Hong Kong trip, hoping that it can also replace our favorite Aloe Vera & Guava facial wash.
Even the most beautiful and fragile face needs to be nourished! Because everyday, we expose ourselves to oxidative stresses and free radicals, our skin becomes prone to damages. Preserve your healthy skin condition and give your skin the proper care to fight the dangers of everyday free radicals. Nurture it with the goodness of tomato extract, from our all-new Nourishing Facial Wash. It’s one of the most powerful antioxidants that soothes and helps repair skin leaving it unbelievably smooth, soft and healthy – inside and out.

P-nut's First Halloween at The Appraisery

I took Pnut out to The Appraisery yesterday after work. I thought it would be a great opportunity for him to flaunt his costume and get some real exercise, too. It was an expensive trip (I had to cab to and from Annapolis) but Pnut enjoyed every bit of it!

I've tweeted and shared on Facebook that Pnut was so well-behaved yesterday, he was let loose inside the store and didn't bother anyone. He was shy at first but the artsy and chill interiors got to him, so much so that he let the customers pet him (I brought him to Tiendesitas before and he got overwhelmed with the noise and the crowd, he refused to walk and wanted to be carried). Yesterday, he was more than happy to hang out with the people at The Appraisery. If he was in "trouble", he would follow me around and stare at me with those pleading eyes. Awww....

my teeny tiny little man :)

Super P-nut: Dog of Steel

It's a bird...It's a plane...It's SUPER P-NUT!

Pnut goes back to his roots and dons another superhero costume this year. Back in 2009, my little Chihuahua dressed up as Batdog which created quite a stir online. This year, he goes as another caped crusader who fights against dog injustice (doggie baths and doggie dentals included) by hitting the town as Super Pnut, the dog of steel.
