What's new at Bedazzle

I've been out of the crafting loop since December. I seriously haven't created anything new hence the lack of posts on my online shop (Mr. Breadkins waves hello). I think I've been biding my time since the -ber months are so far away...when in reality I should start preparing by July.

"Am I ready to give up my bazaar life?," Kira thinks out loud.

Anyway, for a dose of inspiration I decided to visit Cat's store today. Yep I am still sick (I think this will go on until the weekend, boo) and as Cat said, "Man you look reeally sick." The bags, sleepy eyes and sallow complexion were still there.

But to cheer everyone up, myself included, here are some of Cat's new items:

How to fix a split toenail

Gaaah! My boyfriend accidentally stubbed my toe yesterday and my toenail split! Such a waste of a perfectly good pedicure. What do you do when accidents like this happens? I've got a quick fix for you, all you need are a few simple items. I learned this from one of my ever fab FA friends:

nail polish, clear polish, Mighty Bond, toothpick and a piece of tissue (shown below)
Step 1: Apply glue to the cracked/split part of your nail using a toothpick, be careful not to apply glue to your skin. Smooth out the edges.

What's left of my NYX Louisiana

We all have our favorite things, don't we? I don't know about you, but I usually try to use up every little bit of product before I chuck out the container. That goes especially for moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, etc.

However, this practice rarely happens with lipsticks. I mean, with numerous lipsticks out there (constant temptations!) and with my [regular] mood changes, it's hard to hold on to just one color even just for a while. Well, until I met the cult favorite NYX Louisiana.

These are definite signs of an overly used (and loved) lipstick:

One: faded prints

Two: peeling labels

Cerulean Blue

The moment I saw this gorgeous blue pair last May, I knew I had to buy them.

Bright, happy color -- check!
Polka dot inner -- check!
Interesting design -- check!
Affordable price (Php 699) -- check!
Size 4 (very important!) -- check!

It was beckoning, I tell ya. BUT, I was seriously on a shopping ban then so I decided (with much dismay) to pass. For the weeks that followed, I was secretly hoping that they'd still be there the next time I find myself loitering in Glorietta 5.

hello chartreuse nails!
And then just last week, I found myself in Makati for a meeting and well, decided to nonchalantly pass by the Ferretti boutique. Almost magically, the shoes were still there! Yay! So to cut the long story short, I bought them and I haven't been happier since.

I love my new Ferretti kicks and its cheery, youthful color! Very comfy, too.

What are your latest picks from the new Ferretti lineup? Any bright purchases lately? :)

Achieve true beauty, go cruelty-free

This is hands-down one of my favorite POC articles. Many consumers just think of going green and saving the environment, but I say think of our little furry friends, too. I encourage you to watch PETA's short video on animal testing, it will really open your eyes to the plight of animals who suffer in the name of beauty.
----

Every year, millions of animals are tested on by various manufacturers and suppliers. Toxic chemicals are injected into caged dogs, smeared to the eyes of restrained rabbits leading to blindness, massive amounts of substances are forcefully inhaled by monkeys and rats are made to develop tumors and experience seizures.

Arguably, some companies say that if not for these tests we never would have discovered antidotes, vaccines, medicines and cures that are readily available today. However according to PETA, it is a misconception as even prescription drugs that have been rigorously tested on animals, still pose a huge risk to humans. Furthermore, animals have different genetic makeup from us humans, and being kept caged, severely stressed and tested on can greatly vary the results of the experiment, hence making animal testing “unreliable” and “unscientific.”

Alternatives to animal testing

Currently, there are several other viable options to animal testing which are less expensive and provide more valid results. Some examples are in-vitro tests (cell cultures) and human volunteers. Researchers are also conducting more in-depth studies in order to determine the root causes of diseases and certain illnesses, therefore properly identifying possible cures/solutions.

How does it affect consumers?

A typical woman uses an average of 13 products – from facial washes, shampoos, conditioners, lotions to cosmetics - which results to an estimated 126 chemicals per day. One can only imagine how many animals have suffered because of our need to beautify ourselves. As many consumers now start to become aware, a lot of brands are now deciding to be environment-friendly and cruelty-free.

Here is a short list of brands that have pledged to avoid testing on animals:

Candy Shop Lip Tins P129.00; Sheilding Hyro-tint SPF 15 P129.00; Duo Eye Shadow Cream P129.00
ELF has been known in the US primarily for their $1.00 cosmetics and for providing quality products encased in packaging that doesn’t look cheap. ELF is quite possibly the most affordable of all makeup/cosmetic brands that strongly support PETA campaigns. ELF also boasts of being vegan, as quoted from their website: “We do NOT test on animals or endorse such practices. Our products do not contain animal derived ingredients. Beeswax has been replaced by synthetic beeswax and lanolin has been replaced by Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladinpale-2. We currently support HSUS and are partners with PETA in the Caring Consumer Project.”

My new Clinique pouch

Clinique is starting to really grow on me. First it was the Dermawhite Liquid Foundation (pending review, I know! But I love it to death), the All About Eyes eye cream (I'm a huge fan), and now their Butter Shine Lipsticks. Now I know where my paycheck is headed on the 30th...

Also, I'm really grateful that Mira of Clinique gave us a little sumthin-sumthin' yesterday during our meeting. I love the color combination of this unmistakably pretty pouch, it's so happy and summery!

a nice roomy pouch with all of my favorite things :)

Needless to say, I'm a happy camper!

What about you, have you purchased anything from Clinique lately? :)

Review: Majolica Majorca Aurora Tear Liner

I am such a huge fan of Lai's wide-eyed, almost doll-like eyes. She was the perfect candidate to try out Majolica's new Tear Liner from their newest collection, Fake Sleeping. Check out her review below:

---
Lai is a (recently turned) 25 yr old graphic designer working in a corporate world and loves dolling herself up. Her typical date day look includes circle lenses, soft curls, a simple light pink lipstick and a smile on her face. She also likes going bare faced in the office. She loves kitties, her pet rabbit, polaroids and her reading nook. She has recently come back to the blogging world, writing her thoughts on her site http://happydesign.in/blog.

Who doesn't love getting awesome packages in the mail? Imagine my delight when I saw what was waiting for me when I got home from the office -- Majolica Majorca's Aurora Tear Liner in PK (Php 595)!

This is my first Majolica product and I was so excited to try this brand so I just had to say yes when Kira asked me if I would like to try the tear liner as one of her guest bloggers.

The packaging was alright compared to their other products, though it wasn't as flashy. It came perfectly sealed, which is great because you'll know right away that you're getting a new product. And when I opened the cap, out came the glittery goodness!

The green-eyed monster

I'm sporting apple green nails today courtesy of Majolica Majorca.

And oh, coincidentally, Happy 100th Anniversary to DLSU!
Thank you, La Casita & DLSU for loving our cream puffs (and other pastries) for the past 6 years!
You make my mom so happy :D

Sweet treats

Whenever I'd go visit my Dad in Mindanao, my cousins and I like reminiscing on how we used to have so much fun during our childhood summers. I'd pack up my bags and spend 2-3 months over at my Tita's apartment in CDO and like any normal kid, relish in the fact that there weren't any parents around who would tell us what we should or shouldn't do. True story.

Oh how I wish we could all relive the glorious past, right girls? While travelling back to Manila yesterday and trying to wrap my head around all the work that had to be done pronto, this exquisite little package greeted me the moment I walked through the door:

I say, let's whip out some ice cream and coffee and have a little afternoon siesta. Work can start tomorrow. Yum! :)

Cutie-patootie

I'm too pooped from unpacking and lack of sleep to do anything else. It's tough settling back into normal life after a "vacation", right? Anyway, I just want to share some cuteness before I drift off to dreamland. Here are photos of my 7-month old baby nephew, Amiel, the cutest little baby in the entire world. Ooh, just look at those cheeks!

I can't wait for Amiel and his family to come visit us this Christmas! So how did everyone's weekend go? :)

Majolica Majorca "Fake Sleeping" Collection

The new Majolica collection named "Fake Sleeping" is due in stores next month. In case you were wondering, the theme was inspired by Sleeping Beauty in the forest, peacefully awaiting the gentle kiss of Prince Charming to wake her from a hundred years of slumber.

It features 2 products: the Aurora Tear Liners and their second fragrance, Majoromantica F. Thanks to Lux Asia for giving us samples of their newest products to try:

Love the gold purse!

Mmm...so far I've loving their new Majoromantica F scent and the green polish!

I want to know: Which product strikes your fancy? :)

Thinking of Adopting a Pet?

I visited the CARA Clinic (Care and Responsibility for Animals) last week to check out the cats for adoption. To my knowledge it is the only well-maintained animal welfare clinic in the Philippines. The place is super clean (no icky smells or sticky flooring) and the cats are very healthy and well-taken care of.

CARA was formed in the year 2002 by a dedicated group of animal lovers determined to help the plight of animals in the Philippines. Its main purpose is to educate people about animal animal welfare and the rights of animals, help decrease overpopulation by offering spay and neutering services at a low cost and find quality homes for rescues through their adoption program. It's a non-profit, non-government organization that receives no government funding; CARA relies solely on private donations.

This organization has been on my radar for the past few months, mainly because I've always wanted to give back to the animal community and this clinic is located very near my alma mater. I grew up loving animals of all shapes and sizes (even crabs!) that one visit to the clinic really tugged at my heartstrings. If you want to share your home with a pet, please consider adopting one from CARA.

CARA is NOT a shelter but there are currently 40 cats in-house, these are the animals that badly need rescuing, while some were the result of being thrown (literally) inside the gate by pedestrians thinking that CARA will take of them anyway. Other rescued cats are fostered by the CARA volunteers and temporarily reside in their houses until they get adopted.

OOTD: Majolica Majorca Grand Launch

I decided to hibernate last May, which explains the lack of events coverage and fashion entries. Now it's June and what better way to start the month than with an event as luxurious and grand as Majolica Majorca, right? Right!

Lemme share what I wore that day, the theme was playful and whimsical. I think the ruffles paired with my hot pink satchel did the trick for me:

Dress: thrifted | Belt: Robinsons Dept. Store | Pink Satchel: SM Dept. Store | Nude wedges: SM Dept. Store
Me, Roanne & Liz
My outfit is so bargainista, swear. Everything was so well, affordable. Will talk about the event in full detail in my future posts, or you can also catch my coverage on thePOC.net. How was your first day of June? Mine was pretty busy, nerve-wrecking (read: emotional) and well, just all around crazy. But it's great that it's not so hot anymore! :)

PS: Thank you to Roanne of All the Vanity for the awesome photos :D

My fave night moisturizer: All Organics Rosehips Cream

Since November of last year, I've been religiously using Skin Hour's Night Moisturizer before bedtime and I've been enjoying how moisturized, supple and even-toned my skin has become. But I was getting bored of my routine and longed for a lighter, more gel-like moisturizer. Don't get me wrong, Skin Hour's Night Moisturizer is pretty good but I wanted to spice up my skin care routine just a bit.

So after seeing the All Organics Rosehips Cream on the shelves for many months, I decided to try it. It's so affordable at only Php 195/30ml that it was worth a shot. I've been a huge fan of All Organics for many years, and I particularly love their feminine wash and natural soaps.

Rosehips Oil repairs damaged skin tissue, restores elasticity and rebuilds the skin collagen. It counters fine lines and surface wrinkles. Ginseng is an adaptogen which tones and revitalizes skin. Catechins in Green Tea is a clinically proven anti-aging ingredient. Seaweed extracts help to firm up skin texture.

Use daily as a moisturizer before bedtime, you will notice your skin get firmer and fairer. Helps lighten blemishes.

What I got over the crazy weekend sale

I mentioned on Twitter last Friday that VMV Hypoallergenics was having a 25% discount on ALL items including their Armada sunblocks until May 31. My sister and I took advantage of this right away, because their sunblock line rarely goes on sale. I think their best gimmick yet was a BOGO on their Armada line last year, which I'm hoping they'll repeat in the near future.

From left to right (discounted prices)

Id Anti-bacterial Monolaurin Gel Php 480
Armada Face Cover 45 (travel size) Php 698
Armada Face Cover 45 (full size) Php 1200
Armada Face & Body Shield Php 1320

I've been using Face Cover 45 (on and off) since college. Being a skin care junkie it's somewhat hard to be loyal to just one product, but I noticed that I do go back to using Armada every so often especially when other products turn out to be greasy or not suitable for sensitive skin.

What did you buy over the crazy weekend sale? :)
